It could borrow the motor and battery pack from the CE 04 scooter

BMW Motorrad has filed a patent application for an electric motorcycle, and going by the illustration, it could be based on the G 310 R streetfighter.

The patent showcases a naked bike with a mid-mounted motor and a battery pack placed diagonally where the conventional engine would be. This position of the battery pack should also help with the cooling of the same.

Getting down to the specs, the electric bike could be powered by the same motor and battery pack as seen in the BMW CE 04 scooter, but with revised layout considering the compactness of a motorcycle chassis.

Adding to that, TVS had disclosed that it will be working on a joint electric motorcycle platform with BMW in the sub-15kW range, and the closest option in that sense is the CE 04. Building the e-motorcycle on the CE 04’s hardware should also help BMW cut manufacturing costs.

The CE 04 features a 15kW liquid-cooled motor and can achieve a top speed of 120kmph. It is paired to an 8.5kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 130km. Yes, these figures are not too high, but it makes sense for the Bavarian bikemaker to enter the EV motorcycle segment with something that is more accessible.

Expect the electric motorcycle by BMW to make its debut in India late 2024 or by early 2025. Considering that the platform will be shared with TVS, expect the Hosur-based manufacturer to launch an electric motorcycle too, perhaps an electric Apache RR 310.
