Royal Enfield Classic 350 Comparisons

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Expert Review

In line with its retro character, the Classic 350 features a chrome crowned headlight. The single-pod instrument cluster consists of a speedometer, an odometer and a low fuel warning lamp. The circular chrome mirrors, the old-fashioned chrome fuel tank cap, the black rubberised knee pads and the spring-mounted saddle enhance the retro appeal that RE’s are admired for. The overall quality and finish have also been improved. However, it still fails to match that of other modern Indian motorcycles.

Mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 is powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, twin-spark motor that generates a maximum output of 20.08PS at 5250rpm and 28Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 has a fuel tank capacity of 13.5 litres and delivers a claimed mileage of 37kmpl. Braking is managed by a 280mm disc up front and a 230mm drum at the rear. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 is available for Rs 1,35,400 (ex-showroom) and competes with the Mahindra Mojo 300 and the Bajaj Dominar 400.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 has the genetics of the trend that continues to appeal the Indian masses since a long ago. Though the machine was launched back in 2010, it continued the looks of the traditional Royal Enfield motorcycles. The reason to choose the traditional appearance was the charm and authenticity it offers and makes it extraordinary. Only technical advancements are made to the machine, which are highly necessary for the manufacturer to stay strong against its competitors. However, there is no such manufacturer that makes motorcycles as affordable and promising as Royal Enfield.

The machine is crafted on a single downtube type chassis that holds the engine as a stressed member. The rough and irresistible machine notes down the following dimensions: 2180mm x 790mm x 1080mm (l x w x h). The wheelbase of the motorcycle is 1370mm that keeps the ride stable throughout the journey, while minimum ground clearance of 135mm also adds stillness in the maneuvering. The suspension system that keeps the ride smooth and refreshing includes telescopic forks at the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload at the rear.
The motorcycle rolls on the 90/90 – 19-inch front and 110/90 – 18-inch rear tyre with spoke wheels. The wheels are further sport 280mm disc with 2-piston caliper at the front and 153mm drum brake at the rear. The kerb weight of the machine is 187kg, which helps it stay ground and keeps the traction level of high and effective.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 sports a look of a heritage motorcycle with no advance equipment and traditional styling. The round headlamp and long fenders reminds of the motorcycles of late 20th century. The bold and smart fuel tank has a storage capacity of 13.5 liter. Old school seat design of the bike makes it look unique and appears to be comfortable for both the rider and the pillion. From the rear it looks aggressive and interesting with long shining muffler and bullet type side indicators fitted beside petite round taillight.

Instrumentation of the bike is outdated and sport speedometer, odometer and other tell tales. The minimalistic side panels of the machine are in body color along with rear and front fenders. The overall look of the motorcycle is electrifying. The colors in which it is offered in the country are Lagoon, Ash, Classic Black and Classic Silver.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 is propelled by a 346cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, Twinspark engine. The motor is mated to a 5-speed gearbox that works with a wet multiplate type clutch. Developed to produce a maximum power of 20.08PS at 5,250rpm and peak torque of 28Nm at 4,000rpm, the powertrain is highly efficient. Touring is always fun with this machine just because of this invincible motor. Engineered to cover miles, the motor has bore x stroke value of 70mm x 90mm along with a compression ratio of 8.5:1. The fuel efficiency of the mill is amiable with the usage of Constant Vacuum Carburetor and riders can cover more miles as there is a 13.5 liter large fuel tank capacity.

The tyres of the machine are okay and not wide enough but the weight is high enough to offer a better stability and traction that keeps the rider confident during the ride. The braking system is sound enough to stop any casualty still rear disc brakes can be offered to enhance responsiveness. The riding position is pretty healthy that makes the rider control the machine well. Dimensions are also strong that plays well in stabilizing the ride.

Royal Enfield has launched a new variant of the Classic 350 called the Classic 350 'gunmetal grey'. The bike gets a rear disc brake and a new satin grey paint scheme. The new bike is priced at Rs 1.59 lakh (on-road, Delhi).

No such equipment is bestowed to the machine that makes it a highly safe motorcycle. Though, the machine has a much stable ride that helps it stay ground and away from any mishap. However, disc brake at the front wheel helps the rider to stop the vehicle in time.
