Hero Xtreme 125R Review
Hero Xtreme 125R - The Best of Both Worlds?
The 2025 Hero Xtreme 125 is the Hero’s sporty 125cc commuter bike, with a lot of segment-first features. It has some design features similar to its larger siblings, the Xtreme 160R and Xtreme 250R, but with its own unique twist. It’s a decently feature-packed bike with an aggressive design, yet a smooth and fuel-efficient engine.
Design
-
The sharp-looking headlight section looks similar to what we have seen in imported, expensive super naked bikes.
-
It gets twin LED projector headlights which seem to be borrowed from the Xoom 110 scooter. These work really well to illuminate the road at night, and also go well with the bike’s sporty design
-
The two small LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights) above the headlight look really unique and make the 2025 Xtreme 125R really stand out from the crowd
-
The angular tank extensions also add to the bike’s aggressive look
-
The slim tail section is in tune with the rest of the bike’s design, and adds to the sporty appeal
-
The stubby exhaust looks neat and purposeful, and makes the tail of the bike feel even more compact and sporty
- The 2025 Hero Xtreme 125R is available in 3 attractive colours - Cobalt Blue, Firestorm Red and Stallion Black. The blue and red colour options feature a silver panel running from the bottom half of the fuel tank to halfway up the tail section. The black bike has this panel in a matte black shade.
Features
-
The 2025 Xtreme 125 gets a rather small negatively-lit LCD instrument cluster, but it has a clean layout. That said, it lacks some modern features such as Bluetooth connectivity, so you don’t get call/message alerts or any navigation assistance
-
The console displays essential information like speed, gear position fuel level, clock, along with trip and odometer readouts
-
Readability is quite poor under direct sunlight since the display is not super bright
-
It gets big, chunky switchgear, that is really easy to use, and feels high quality too.
-
On the safety front, the Xtreme does offer single-channel ABS on the top variant - something that none of the other bikes in this segment have
-
The base model does get a smaller 240mm front disc brake, but only features a combined braking system (IBS, or Integrated Braking System as Hero calls it)
Riding Posture & Comfort
-
It is easy to place both feet flat on the ground while sitting because of its low 794mm seat height
-
Easy to move around on the seat and get a comfortable riding position since the seat is spacious
-
The seat cushioning is not the best, and over longer rides, the seat does tend to feel a little uncomfortable.
-
The pillion seat is set a little high, so it takes a little effort to climb on. But once you settle on it, it is quite comfortable, at least during city commutes
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Engine |
Power |
Torque |
Gearbox |
125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder |
11.4PS |
10.5Nm |
5-speed |
-
The engine is really smooth, and any vibrations are only felt at really high rpm.
-
The engine is powerful enough to cruise at 80kmph, and doesn’t feel stressed at all up to these speeds. It can go faster as well, say 90-95kmph. But the engine doesn’t seem too happy at these speeds
-
The bike is easy to ride in the city because of its good low rpm torque. Overtakes in the city are easy and don’t need you to downshift all the time.
-
The gearbox is quite smooth, and you can change gears with minimal effort
- At city speeds, this engine feels completely unstressed and hence offers fantastic fuel efficiency - we got 81.52kmpl in the city.
- Because of the smaller 125cc engine capacity, the engine has to work harder at highway speeds, resulting in a slight drop in mileage. In our highway tests, the 2025 Xtreme 125R returned a mileage of 61.68kmpl, which is still very respectable.
Handling, Braking & Ride Quality
-
The bike has sporty handling thanks to a slightly firm suspension setup
-
It changes direction without much effort, so going through city traffic is an absolute breeze
-
Even when going around faster corners, the 2025 Xtreme 125R inspires confidence thanks to its wider MRF Zapper tyres, which offer good grip
-
The 276mm front brake (on the top ABS model) feels really good, and can stop the bike quickly if you squeeze the lever hard
-
The 130mm rear drum brake, on the other hand, has a slightly vague feel, and it’s difficult to predict how much pressure on the rear brake pedal will make the rear wheel lock
-
While the suspension is a bit on the firmer side, it handles bumps and potholes on the road quite well. You do feel the undulations on the road surface, but you’ll only feel a jolt over the sharpest of bumps
-
The firmness of the suspension will be felt more by lighter riders. But if you’re above 75kg in weight, or are carrying a pillion, the ride quality feels much better
Should You Buy The Hero Xtreme 125R?
-
The 2025 Hero Xtreme 125R is a great city bike thanks to its strong low-rpm torque and sporty performance
-
It offers a great blend of everyday practicality with just enough sportiness to keep you entertained while riding
-
The 2025 Hero Xtreme 125R is a great option for those who need a bike for everyday riding in the city and want to head out of the city on occassional weekend rides.
-
Its sporty design is bound to appeal to younger riders who would otherwise find most regular 125cc commuter bikes a bit boring.

- Review of bikeI had a good experience with xtreme 125r. company claim mileage is 66kmpl but it gives on average 55- 60 kmpl . Best bikes for city rides but it lacks power on the highway. Its the best bike for beginners who are just starting to ride a bike . Best affordable 125cc bike . It could be uncomfortable for pillion rider because of split seat.Read More
