Overview

The Hero Xpulse 421 is going to be the brand’s flagship adventure motorcycle and the biggest member of the Xpulse family yet. It was recently spotted testing in the high-altitude regions of Ladakh; the motorcycle appeared to be in an advanced stage of development. Unlike the smaller Xpulse models, the Xpulse 421 is being developed as a proper middleweight adventure tourer aimed at taking on rivals like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure.
The bike is expected to make its global debut at EICMA 2026, with an India launch likely to follow thereafter.
Design

The spy shots revealed a purpose-built adventure motorcycle with strong off-road intentions. Up front, it had a rally-inspired fairing housing a high-mounted LED headlight. The bodywork featured sharp lines and muscular proportions, giving the bike a rugged ADV stance.
The fuel tank and seat appeared to be sculpted to provide better grip while riding off-road in a standing position. While the front section looked substantial, the rear half appeared slim and compact, which should help maintain agility on trails. The Xpulse 421 is also expected to feature a tall windscreen, upright ergonomics, and a luggage-friendly rear section for touring duties.
Features

The upcoming Hero Xpulse 421 test bike was seen with a fully digital TFT instrument console that is expected to offer smartphone connectivity, along with features like turn-by-turn navigation, SMS/call alerts and music controls.
In terms of rider aids, Hero could equip the Xpulse 421 with multiple ride modes, a cruise control switchable traction control, switchable dual-channel ABS, a bidirectional quickshifter and a USB charging port as well. Given its flagship positioning, the Xpulse 421 could emerge as one of the most feature-loaded ADVs in its segment.
Riding Posture & Comfort
Rider Comfort
The upright handlebar, tall stance, and mid-set footpegs should provide a comfortable riding posture for long-distance touring. The ergonomics also appear to be optimized for standing while riding off-road. Long-travel suspension should further improve comfort over rough roads and trails.
Pillion ComfortWhile the rear section appears relatively slim, the stepped seat should provide decent space for a pillion rider. The bike is also expected to feature a sturdy rear rack that could double up as a grab rail.
Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Hero Xpulse 421 will likely be using an all-new 421cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine paired to a six-speed gearbox. While official output figures remain under wraps, performance is expected to slot between the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure. The motorcycle is also likely to get a quickshifter, improving convenience during spirited riding and touring.
City & Highway PerformanceIn the city, the Xpulse 421 should feel manageable despite its adventure-focused design, thanks to its single-cylinder engine and upright ergonomics. On highways, the motorcycle is expected to excel with strong mid-range performance, relaxed cruising ability, and electronic aids like cruise control. The wind protection offered by the fairing and windscreen should further enhance long-distance comfort.
Handling & Ride Quality
Brakes
The Xpulse 421 test bike had a large front disc brake with a radial caliper setup, while the rear used a single disc.
HandlingThe bike is likely to use a steel trellis frame, along with long-travel inverted fork, and a rear monoshock. The test bike was seen without any adjustability, maybe Hero is saving for the Pro version.
It appeared to be running on a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup wrapped in dual-purpose tyres, which should provide good road and off-road capabilities.
Ride QualityWith long suspension travel and adventure-oriented wheels, the Xpulse 421 should offer a plush ride over broken roads while remaining capable on challenging trails.
Rivals To Consider
Once launched, the Hero Xpulse 421 will compete with bikes like the KTM 390 Adventure S, and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
