      R15 V4 Expert Review

      BikeDekho Experts
The Yamaha R15 V4 is the perfect supersport for those who want to learn and be a better rider on the race track, and as a consequence, on public roads as well. It may have a not-so-practical riding posture but if you can overlook that aspect, it's a fantastic, feature-packed bike in its segment.

      Yamaha R15 V4 - Introduction

Over the years, the R15 evolved through several generations, each bringing in better performance, styling updates, and technological improvements, while always retaining its identity as an accessible supersport machine. Now, in its fourth generation, the Yamaha R15 V4 has matured with styling inspired by its larger siblings, advanced features like a TFT screen, traction control, and a quickshifter. The R15 V4 is a fun machine designed to thrill and offer young riders and enthusiasts a taste of supersport riding without demanding supersport-level budgets. I did spend some time with the motorcycle to tell you how it balances being an everyday commuter and a track-bred machine.

      Design & Build Quality

      Yamaha R15 V4: Design

The R15 V4 is easily one of the most attractive motorcycles in its segment, with sleek styling that has been inspired heavily by Yamaha’s global R-series family. The front has a sharp, aerodynamic fairing housing a central bi-functional LED projector flanked by LED DRLs that give it a menacing, big-bike look. From the side, the motorcycle carries strong supersport cues: a sculpted 11-litre fuel tank with deep knee recesses, fairing extensions that integrate neatly, and a raised tail section with a split-seat setup.

The tail is sharp and compact, with LED lights that complete the sporty appeal. Clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs make its intentions clear; this is a bike designed to put the rider in an aggressive riding posture. Overall, the R15 V4 has a design language that gives it a big bike appeal but overall, it is still quite a compact motorcycle and might be too small for larger riders.

Here’s what the new colours of the Yamaha R15 V4 are.

      Yamaha R15 V4 Side Profile

      Yamaha R15 V4: Colours

Yamaha offers the R15 V4 in several colour schemes. The shades on the standard model include Racing Blue, Dark Knight (matte black), and Metallic Red, Vivid Magenta Metallic, and Intensity White. The top-spec M variant gets Icon Performance, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition, and Metallic Grey. I do like the new Icon Performance which is the most expensive colour scheme with carbon-fibre finished panels and a nice touch is the blue wheels.

Yamaha R15 V4 Right Side Profile

      Yamaha R15 V4: Build Quality

Yamaha has always had a reputation for premium build quality in its motorcycles, and the story remains the same with the R15 V4.. The paint finish is deep and glossy, plastics are sturdy with tight fit and finish, and even smaller details like switchgear and panel integration feel high quality. It feels premium and well put together. R15s are also known to be reliable and hold up well even after years of use, provided they’re maintained properly.

      Features

      Yamaha R15 V4: Convenience Features

For a 155cc motorcycle, the R15 V4 is packed with features usually seen in higher segments. The standard model gets a fully digital LCD instrument cluster that is feature-rich, with Bluetooth connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-Connect app enabling call & SMS alerts, phone battery status, and even last-parked location.

The higher M variant comes equipped with a TFT dash and a quickshifter, which is rare in this segment and adds to the sportbike feel. There’s also a side-stand engine cut-off, automatic headlamp, and gear position indicator; practical touches that make everyday riding easier.

      Yamaha R15 V4: Safety Features

The R15 V4 comes with dual-channel ABS, traction control, and hazard lights as standard. The traction control system, while not necessary in my opinion, is useful for less experienced riders. Additionally, the LED projector headlamp and DRLs offer good illumination at night, further enhancing safety.

      Comfort

      Yamaha R15 V4: Rider Comfort

The seating position of the R15 is aggressive where the clip-on handlebars are low, the footpegs are rear-set, and the rider leans considerably forward. For shorter commutes and while hitting twisty roads, this feels exciting and sporty, but in heavy traffic or long-distance highway rides, it did strain my wrists, shoulders, and back. That said, for riders who want a true sportbike experience, this riding triangle delivers the closest feel to bigger supersports.

      Yamaha R15 V4 Riding Posture

      Yamaha R15 V4: Pillion Comfort

The pillion seat is small, high-set, and not very cushioned, which makes it impractical for long rides with a passenger. Climbing onto the seat itself can be challenging for some pillion riders. This is clearly a bike designed with the rider in mind rather than two-up touring.

      Engine, Performance & Mileage

      Yamaha R15 V4: Engine

The 155cc, liquid-cooled engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) is the heart of the R15 V4. It produces around 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. While the numbers may not sound massive on paper, this Yamaha engine has a lot of punch in the top-end. This is thanks to the VVA technology ensures that the engine has strong low and mid-range torque while also screaming happily at high revs.

      Yamaha R15 V4 Front View

      Yamaha R15 V4: City Performance

In the city, the engine is smooth and refined, with a light clutch action and slick gearshifts making it manageable in traffic. Below 6,000rpm, it is tractable enough for urban riding, and once the VVA kicks in around 7,400rpm, there’s a noticeable wind of power that keeps things exciting. This dual nature of the engine makes it versatile where it is easy enough for daily rides, but thrilling when you rev it out. On the M variant, the quickshifter does work really well and makes the ride experience even more engaging. In our acceleration tests, here is what the bike was capable of:

      Acceleration

      0-60kmph

      0-80kmph

      0-100kmph

      Time

      4.82 seconds

      8.08 seconds

      13.25 seconds

      Yamaha R15 V4: Highway Performance

On highways, the R15 V4 feels confident and planted. It can comfortably cruise at 90–100 km/h, with enough top-end performance to touch 130 km/h when pushed. Overtakes are easy to execute and the aerodynamic fairing helps reduce windblast a little, making longer highway stints possible. For touring, though, the aggressive posture may become tiring over time, but the bike itself has the performance and stability to handle it.

Yamaha R15 V4 Riding Shot Side Profile

      Yamaha R15 V4: Mileage

Despite its sporty character, the R15 V4 delivers impressive mileage. In our tests we were able to get a mileage of around 55km/l which is great for such a motorcycle. It will vary depending on riding conditions but this is another factor that makes it a practical offering. The balance of efficiency and excitement is one of the main reasons for its popularity in our price sensitive market.

      Handling & Ride Quality

      Yamaha R15 V4: Handling

Handling has always been the biggest strength of the R15, and the V4 takes it even further. The Deltabox frame provides really good stability, while the sharp steering geometry makes it feel precise while attacking corners. It changes direction easily, and the bike feels extremely planted mid corner. Ultimately, it allowed me to carry greater speeds with much more confidence.

Whether it is carving through twisties, attacking a racetrack, or navigating city traffic, the R15 V4 always feels composed and confidence-inspiring. For riders that want a beginner bike for the race track, the R15 is probably the best machine to start off on and hone your skills.

      Yamaha R15 V4 Cornering Shot

      Yamaha R15 V4: Tyres

The R15 V4 comes with MRF radial tyres. The grip levels are good for the levels of performance the bike offers, and the wide rear tyre adds to the bike’s sporty look.

Yamaha R15 V4 Corner Riding Shot

      Yamaha R15 V4: Brakes

Braking hardware includes a 282 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at the rear, paired with dual-channel ABS. The brakes work well in most situations but I did feel that while pushing the motorcycle, the front brake could have offered a better initial bite. It does its job well but experienced riders might feel like they want a little more.

Yamaha R15 V4 Front Disc Brake

      Yamaha R15 V4: Ride Quality

The suspension setup includes inverted forks and a monoshock at the rear. The tuning is on the firmer side to aid handling, which makes it excellent on smooth highways or racetracks. However, on rough urban roads and potholes, the ride can feel slightly stiff. It can still handle the everyday bad roads but riders will have to slow down for larger potholes and undulations.

      Verdict

      Yamaha R15 V4: Verdict

The Yamaha R15 V4 remains the undisputed king of entry-level supersports. It combines aggressive design, advanced features, sharp handling, and a refined, rev-happy engine into one exciting package. It’s not the most practical motorcycle as you sacrifice some comfort and pillion friendliness, but for riders who want performance, precision, and big-bike appeal on a smaller budget, the R15 V4 is unmatched. What you also get is great mileage and reliability that the Yamaha brand is known for. For beginners, it is the perfect training ground and for enthusiasts, it’s still one of the most fun machines to push hard. The price is on the higher side and it is the most expensive 155cc motorcycle on sale.

Here's why the Yamaha R15 is one of the most beginner-friendly bikes.

       Yamaha R15 V4 Verdict

      Yamaha R15 V4: Variants

The R15 V4 is available in two variants. The standard version is already well equipped, while the higher M variant features a TFT screen and a quickshifter. Additionally, different colour schemes are offered with more premium elements on the M variant.

      📝Redditors’ Opinions on Yamaha R15 V4

The Yamaha R15 V4 received positive feedback for its sporty looks, premium features, reliable engine, and strong performance, especially for beginners and track use. Mixed comments mention it’s fun but not ideal for daily commutes due to the aggressive posture and limited comfort. A few negative views cite poor practicality, discomfort, and say it's overhyped or chosen mainly for looks.

      ✅ 5 Positive Opinions

      • If you plan to learn Track riding or to improve your skills or if you are a beginner there is nothing in the world that is better than R15.
Also it has premium build quality and excellent looks. The price is justified. The sales are proof of that. — says anythingactuallynot

      • I have tons of fun riding my upgraded R15 V3 2019 in the mountains. Lightweight and agile, a beast in cornering and hitting 130+ kmph then hard braking and slaying the next chicane, a different kind of fun indeed. Get what makes you happy bro, only you know what bike is meant for you. — says BzSailo  (Older model)

      • Forget about the superb features loaded into the v4. The engine on it is a gem, probably the best 150 engine ever. Find me another 150cc in india that can do 145 kmph without getting stressed at all. I had the v2 that didn’t have half the features that you have today and I still loved that bike just for the smile it puts on your face when you rev.
Edit : I just have to add this. You get all that performance and it still gives 40 kmpl+ easily. That is insane. — says Doubledoor

      • The engine is so advanced only few 1000cc bikes have tech like VVA, now it has usd and all that, hardware costs money and for each component government charges different rate of tax if imported so due to tax the prices must have increased even further. R15 is slightly over priced but the as a package it's excellent — says 3nchantingdevil

      • Own r15v4 moto gp edition from almost 3 years now. Except for torque, its awesome, amount of confidence it gives, braking, quickshifter, mileage. All are good, except for back/wrist pain. Congratulations op🥂. You will surely love this.— says Sad-Method-16

      ⚖️ 5 Mixed Opinions:

      • The R15 is the closest you can get to a propper supersports postion on a budget and the N250 is a street naked. You'll be more comfortable on the N250 than you are on the R15, make sure you can live with that..— says Friendly-Charge4094

      • I am R15v4 owner. I love my bike very much but I have some regrets. I have been a fan of the R series Yamaha since I was a kid and it was my dream to own an R15. R15 is meant to be driving on smooth and faster road and my daily commute is around 3-4 km that too all in a city like Pune so I never get to utilise full potential of the bike. There are no professional race track here around which I can go to and try it out so Except for once I have never unlocked full potential of the bike.— says rakeshmali981

      • Honestly speaking, if you arent gonna be utilizing the sport capabilities of your bike often, dont go for a sport tourer. I got a R15M knowing I was gonna do a lot of Ghat runs and short trips after i get one. Daily city commutes are an absolute burden, I literally had to buy a bungee cord to attach my bag at the back cuz I started having back issues after doing 45 min commute daily with a 5-6kg backpack. I suggest you reevaluate your current choices based on practicality. Go for street-fighters or Cruisers/Scramblers if you're gonna be mostly in the city but still want good power — says That_One_86

      • R15: Very reliable engine with low maintenance costs. Delivers excellent mileage — easily around 50–55 kmpl. However, it's not ideal for long rides as it can cause wrist and back pain. Not very comfortable on bad roads either, as the suspension is tuned more for track use."says Apprehensive-Mix-45

      • The riding posture is the main concern imo. If you are planning to use the bike once occasionally on weekends, it's fine. For regular commuting, I would suggest you to look for something else."—says Odd_Sample_5433

      ❌ 2 Negative Opinions:

      • Bro, the riding posture is a very bad aspect of this bike.
The power is not that great. It’d be good if you were a beginner rider but coming from a pulsor 150 you won’t see much difference. — says RxRiderMD

      • If you thought you’d be happier on an R15 instead of your current bike boy are you in for a disappointment.
I easily gap R15s and Mt15s on my Hness all day I dont know what you’re on about. 💨🗿" — says HumanFisherman3780

Being the most premium and performance-oriented machine in its segment, the R15 V4 does not have any direct competitors but it will soon, considering that the KTM RC 160 is expected to launch. Naked alternatives to the R15 are the MT-15 and the upcoming KTM Duke 160. The MT-15 makes a good case for itself as it is more affordable, offers similar performance, and is even more comfortable for everyday riding.

We compare it against the Hero Karizma XMR to see which one is better.

High performance bike in the segment
I chose this bike because of the performance it gives in this segment and price range, also the looks it offers makes its road presence more attractive, mileage is one more aspect that i took in consideration while buying this bike. Performance wise ride is exceptionally excellent but you can suffer back pain if u ride it in incorrect posture. Keep your arms slightly bend while holding handle, put your toes or the fingers of the feet on the footrest rather than putting while feet on it, this will make your ride much more fun in long run. Bike is well maintained and need very less as maintenance charge. I would really recommend this bike to the person who is looking for sporty bikes in affordable price, person with 5 feet 6 inch and above should buy this bike as it will also complement your looks, as well as it offers low maintenance and hight performance.

R15 V4: Made for Some, Not for everyone—Here’s Why
This bike looks sporty like Baby R6 styling and best in class performance also R15 holds VVA technology and gives us a good mileage around 40 easily in cities and yamaha engines are know for long life The riding posture is quite aggressive supersport style which can cause wrist or back strain if you ride long or in traffic apart from this you will enjoy every single moment but yes after buying this bike you will fall in love with your bike Sports bike enthusiasts person like if you love the looks and feel a supersport then this bike is very attractive it has aggressive styling sharp lines and a strong design presence and young riders beginners wanting a proper sports entry then go for it its a very good learning sport bike and this bike is not for who prioritising comfort over sportiness especially for long rides or someone who needs a very practical daily bike for heavy traffic

Yamaha R15V4 pros, cons and awesome performance.
I choose R15 V4 for its sporty looks and performance , which are enhanced by powerful engine with VVA technology. Agile handling, and features like inverted front fork and traction control. its also praised for improved build quality and good balance of city-friendly comfort and track-inspired performance, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. performance is best as compare to other bikes in this range , I don't think about comfort because its a sport bike. having powerful engine and sharp acceleration. especially in the mid-to-high RPM range. The rear seat is small and uncomfortable for anything more than short rides but I like to travel single. I recommend this bike to the Beginners and budding sport bike enthusiasts , Riders who enjoy spirited riding/cornering , Daily commuters while the aggressive posture can be drawback in heavy traffic or long rides, the bike's light weight , good mileage ( around 45-50 km/l ) gives satisfaction. I will not recommend this bike for who prioritise comfort for long tours and Individuals seeking a family-friendly bike.

        R15 V4 M metallic silver review
Really good bike for those who wish to compromise a bit of speed for looks and mileage. I genuinely enjoy riding it but now I have to let go due to some future commitments. The bike has faced very little problems from the beginning, and the service is pretty good, but I would suggest servicing it not in Yamaha to avoid hassle and cost with better understanding of what the issue in any case is.

Smooth on highways streets It gets more comfortable while you ride alone but with pillion, pillion will put force on your back when you do breaking Where as it wont fit for pillion Other than this you can even do long ride Positive looks features power mileage handling comfortable for rider breaking Negatives rear breaking could have given better rear seat cushion should have been improved could have given ABS modes had radiator issues but covered in warranty Person who care about mileage and wants a best looking sports bike with best looks and better mileage Better suits for college students Doesn't suit for family oriented person and beginner because they cant control the power of bike produces

One of the best bike is R15
I want an good looking bike with good performance and better mileage. This bike offers many features with stylish look and powerful engine. Also I am a big fan of Yamaha that's why I choose this bike. Also I want an super sports bike. This bike will fulfill my all requirements, that's why I choose this bike. This bike is good for rides, but not for long rides because it's riding posture is very sporty and after some time of riding I am feeling pain in my back. Otherwise it's mileage, handling are too good for me. First of all it an yamaha machine which is reliable. Then this bike will give good mileage with a good power delivery. Also its handling and riding experience is much impressive and good. These are some reasons I'll recommend to buy this bike

        The goat r15
The Yamaha R15, now in its fourth iteration (V4), continues to be the undisputed benchmark for entry-level supersport motorcycles. It's a machine that genuinely brings racetrack-inspired technology and design to the 150-160cc segment. While its aggressive, committed design isn't for everyone, for the enthusiast seeking pure performance and handling, it's in a class of its own. The R15 is for the rider who prioritizes performance, technology, and handling above all else. It's for the enthusiast who wants a true supersport experience, complete with an aggressive riding posture, sharp looks, and track-day capability This is not a comfortable bike for long-distance touring or relaxed commuting. The riding position is highly committed (leaned forward), which can put a strain on your wrists and back. Furthermore, the pillion (passenger) seat is extremely small and high, making it unsuitable for anyone other than for very short, occasional trips.

Why you should choose yamaha R15
I chose the yamaha R15 because it perfectly balances the performance ,style and reliability. The aggressive looks and sporty design of this bike is what i have gone for it gives a feel of having superbike in just 155cc and The VVa feature of this bike makes it good for performance. I have ridden this bike for approximately 15000km and I did not face any issues so far the riding experience is going good so far I did not have any type of issues related to any part of the bike and comfort is okay on the bike it is not the best but yeah the aggressive looks of this bike compensate for this all. This bike is is good for those who wants to buy a superbike but do not have enough budget and the person who wants sporty and superbike like feel for their bikes underbudget. This bike also provides a good mileage so its also better for city rides and daily up downs as well
