Yamaha R15 V4 - Introduction
Over the years, the R15 evolved through several generations, each bringing in better performance, styling updates, and technological improvements, while always retaining its identity as an accessible supersport machine. Now, in its fourth generation, the Yamaha R15 V4 has matured with styling inspired by its larger siblings, advanced features like a TFT screen, traction control, and a quickshifter. The R15 V4 is a fun machine designed to thrill and offer young riders and enthusiasts a taste of supersport riding without demanding supersport-level budgets. I did spend some time with the motorcycle to tell you how it balances being an everyday commuter and a track-bred machine.

Design & Build Quality
Yamaha R15 V4: Design
The R15 V4 is easily one of the most attractive motorcycles in its segment, with sleek styling that has been inspired heavily by Yamaha’s global R-series family. The front has a sharp, aerodynamic fairing housing a central bi-functional LED projector flanked by LED DRLs that give it a menacing, big-bike look. From the side, the motorcycle carries strong supersport cues: a sculpted 11-litre fuel tank with deep knee recesses, fairing extensions that integrate neatly, and a raised tail section with a split-seat setup.
The tail is sharp and compact, with LED lights that complete the sporty appeal. Clip-on handlebars and rear-set footpegs make its intentions clear; this is a bike designed to put the rider in an aggressive riding posture. Overall, the R15 V4 has a design language that gives it a big bike appeal but overall, it is still quite a compact motorcycle and might be too small for larger riders.

Yamaha offers the R15 V4 in several colour schemes. The shades on the standard model include Racing Blue, Dark Knight (matte black), and Metallic Red, Vivid Magenta Metallic, and Intensity White. The top-spec M variant gets Icon Performance, Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Edition, and Metallic Grey. I do like the new Icon Performance which is the most expensive colour scheme with carbon-fibre finished panels and a nice touch is the blue wheels.

Yamaha has always had a reputation for premium build quality in its motorcycles, and the story remains the same with the R15 V4.. The paint finish is deep and glossy, plastics are sturdy with tight fit and finish, and even smaller details like switchgear and panel integration feel high quality. It feels premium and well put together. R15s are also known to be reliable and hold up well even after years of use, provided they’re maintained properly.

For a 155cc motorcycle, the R15 V4 is packed with features usually seen in higher segments. The standard model gets a fully digital LCD instrument cluster that is feature-rich, with Bluetooth connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-Connect app enabling call & SMS alerts, phone battery status, and even last-parked location.
The higher M variant comes equipped with a TFT dash and a quickshifter, which is rare in this segment and adds to the sportbike feel. There’s also a side-stand engine cut-off, automatic headlamp, and gear position indicator; practical touches that make everyday riding easier.

Yamaha R15 V4: Safety Features
The R15 V4 comes with dual-channel ABS, traction control, and hazard lights as standard. The traction control system, while not necessary in my opinion, is useful for less experienced riders. Additionally, the LED projector headlamp and DRLs offer good illumination at night, further enhancing safety.

Comfort
Yamaha R15 V4: Rider Comfort
The seating position of the R15 is aggressive where the clip-on handlebars are low, the footpegs are rear-set, and the rider leans considerably forward. For shorter commutes and while hitting twisty roads, this feels exciting and sporty, but in heavy traffic or long-distance highway rides, it did strain my wrists, shoulders, and back. That said, for riders who want a true sportbike experience, this riding triangle delivers the closest feel to bigger supersports.

Yamaha R15 V4: Pillion Comfort
The pillion seat is small, high-set, and not very cushioned, which makes it impractical for long rides with a passenger. Climbing onto the seat itself can be challenging for some pillion riders. This is clearly a bike designed with the rider in mind rather than two-up touring.

Engine, Performance & Mileage
Yamaha R15 V4: Engine
The 155cc, liquid-cooled engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) is the heart of the R15 V4. It produces around 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm. While the numbers may not sound massive on paper, this Yamaha engine has a lot of punch in the top-end. This is thanks to the VVA technology ensures that the engine has strong low and mid-range torque while also screaming happily at high revs.

Yamaha R15 V4: City Performance
In the city, the engine is smooth and refined, with a light clutch action and slick gearshifts making it manageable in traffic. Below 6,000rpm, it is tractable enough for urban riding, and once the VVA kicks in around 7,400rpm, there’s a noticeable wind of power that keeps things exciting. This dual nature of the engine makes it versatile where it is easy enough for daily rides, but thrilling when you rev it out. Yamaha R15 V4: Highway Performance
On highways, the R15 V4 feels confident and planted. It can comfortably cruise at 90–100 km/h, with enough top-end performance to touch 130 km/h when pushed. Overtakes are easy to execute and the aerodynamic fairing helps reduce windblast a little, making longer highway stints possible. For touring, though, the aggressive posture may become tiring over time, but the bike itself has the performance and stability to handle it.

Yamaha R15 V4: Mileage
Despite its sporty character, the R15 V4 delivers impressive mileage. In our tests we were able to get a mileage of around 55km/l which is great for such a motorcycle. It will vary depending on riding conditions but this is another factor that makes it a practical offering. The balance of efficiency and excitement is one of the main reasons for its popularity in our price sensitive market.

Handling & Ride Quality
Yamaha R15 V4: Handling
Handling has always been the biggest strength of the R15, and the V4 takes it even further. The Deltabox frame provides really good stability, while the sharp steering geometry makes it feel precise while attacking corners. It changes direction easily, and the bike feels extremely planted mid corner. Ultimately, it allowed me to carry greater speeds with much more confidence.
Whether it is carving through twisties, attacking a racetrack, or navigating city traffic, the R15 V4 always feels composed and confidence-inspiring. For riders that want a beginner bike for the race track, the R15 is probably the best machine to start off on and hone your skills.

Yamaha R15 V4: Tyres
The R15 V4 comes with MRF radial tyres. The grip levels are good for the levels of performance the bike offers, and the wide rear tyre adds to the bike’s sporty look.

Yamaha R15 V4: Brakes
Braking hardware includes a 282 mm disc at the front and 220 mm disc at the rear, paired with dual-channel ABS. The brakes work well in most situations but I did feel that while pushing the motorcycle, the front brake could have offered a better initial bite. It does its job well but experienced riders might feel like they want a little more.

Yamaha R15 V4: Ride Quality
The suspension setup includes inverted forks and a monoshock at the rear. The tuning is on the firmer side to aid handling, which makes it excellent on smooth highways or racetracks. However, on rough urban roads and potholes, the ride can feel slightly stiff. It can still handle the everyday bad roads but riders will have to slow down for larger potholes and undulations.

The Yamaha R15 V4 remains the undisputed king of entry-level supersports. It combines aggressive design, advanced features, sharp handling, and a refined, rev-happy engine into one exciting package. It’s not the most practical motorcycle as you sacrifice some comfort and pillion friendliness, but for riders who want performance, precision, and big-bike appeal on a smaller budget, the R15 V4 is unmatched. What you also get is great mileage and reliability that the Yamaha brand is known for. For beginners, it is the perfect training ground and for enthusiasts, it’s still one of the most fun machines to push hard. The price is on the higher side and it is the most expensive 155cc motorcycle on sale.

Forget about the superb features loaded into the v4. The engine on it is a gem, probably the best 150 engine ever. Find me another 150cc in india that can do 145 kmph without getting stressed at all. I had the v2 that didn’t have half the features that you have today and I still loved that bike just for the smile it puts on your face when you rev.

I am R15v4 owner. I love my bike very much but I have some regrets. I have been a fan of the R series Yamaha since I was a kid and it was my dream to own an R15. R15 is meant to be driving on smooth and faster road and my daily commute is around 3-4 km that too all in a city like Pune so I never get to utilise full potential of the bike. Honestly speaking, if you arent gonna be utilizing the sport capabilities of your bike often, dont go for a sport tourer. I got a R15M knowing I was gonna do a lot of Ghat runs and short trips after i get one. Daily city commutes are an absolute burden, I literally had to buy a bungee cord to attach my bag at the back cuz I started having back issues after doing 45 min commute daily with a 5-6kg backpack. I suggest you reevaluate your current choices based on practicality. Go for street-fighters or Cruisers/Scramblers if you're gonna be mostly in the city but still want good power — says That_One_86

- High performance bike in the segmentI chose this bike because of the performance it gives in this segment and price range, also the looks it offers makes its road presence more attractive, mileage is one more aspect that i took in consideration while buying this bike. Performance wise ride is exceptionally excellent but you can suffer back pain if u ride it in incorrect posture. Keep your arms slightly bend while holding handle, put your toes or the fingers of the feet on the footrest rather than putting while feet on it, this will make your ride much more fun in long run. Bike is well maintained and need very less as maintenance charge. I would really recommend this bike to the person who is looking for sporty bikes in affordable price, person with 5 feet 6 inch and above should buy this bike as it will also complement your looks, as well as it offers low maintenance and hight performance.Read More1

Agile handling, and features like inverted front fork and traction control. its also praised for improved build quality and good balance of city-friendly comfort and track-inspired performance, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced riders. performance is best as compare to other bikes in this range , I don't think about comfort because its a sport bike. having powerful engine and sharp acceleration. especially in the mid-to-high RPM range. The rear seat is small and uncomfortable for anything more than short rides but I like to travel single. I recommend this bike to the Beginners and budding sport bike enthusiasts , Riders who enjoy spirited riding/cornering , Daily commuters while the aggressive posture can be drawback in heavy traffic or long rides, the bike's light weight , good mileage ( around 45-50 km/l ) gives satisfaction. The aggressive looks and sporty design of this bike is what i have gone for it gives a feel of having superbike in just 155cc and The VVa feature of this bike makes it good for performance.
