    Expert Verdict

The XSR 155 should be a good choice for someone who wants a unique-looking bike, that offers good performance, has a decent mileage, and is reasonably priced. We don’t expect its maintenance costs to be outrageously high either, which should mean it's easier on the pocket. All said, we can only give you a final verdict about all the aspects of the bike once we have had a chance to ride it properly.

    Overview

The Yamaha XSR155 was launched in India starting at Rs 1,49,990 (introductory, ex-showroom). However, now according to the brand’s official website, this introductory price is only valid till February 2026. The brand has now increased the price of the motorcycle, and it is now based on the colour you choose. You can also check out our launch story here for the complete details. Deliveries of the bike have also commenced, and here’s the booking amount for the Yamaha XSR 155. Here’s how much it will cost if you decide to buy the XSR 155 on EMI. Our Ultimate Buying Guide can give you all the information you need before you decide to buy the bike. Also, on May 21, 2026, Yamaha launched the XSR 155 in Japan.

    Yamaha XSR 155 Launched

    3.0
    Design

The Yamaha XSR155 has a neo-retro styling with a round LED headlight, a slim fuel tank and minimalist side panels. The bike has a long single-piece seat and a round LED tail light. The bike looks quite good, and smaller attention-to-detail elements such as the Yamaha badging on the tank adds to the premium feel. Have a closer look at the bike in our image gallery.

    Red Yamaha XSR155

Just as expected from a Yamaha bike, its fit and finish is quite good. Panel gaps aren’t inconsistent, and the paint quality looks and feels premium. During the launch, the Yamaha XSR 155 was available in four colour options: Metallic Grey, Metallic Blue, Vivid Red and Greyish Green Metallic. We have explained all the colours here in detail. We think the Greyish Green Metallic looks the best, as it really brings out the bike’s retro character more. In March, Yamaha launched a new Metallic Black colour option due to customer demands and if you are interested in the new colour, here is the on-road price in top 5 cities across India

    Safety Features

The Yamaha XSR155 the basics of safety covered – dual-channel ABS, and switchable traction control. For a 155cc bike, traction control is not extremely crucial but it still makes a difference on slippery roads. For a beginner rider, this along with the dual-channel ABS should provide an adequate safety net in everyday conditions.

    Yamaha XSR155 console

    Convenience Features

The Yamaha XSR 155 gets all-LED lights, adding a hint of modernity to the motorcycle. While the headlight design looks cool, we’ll be able to talk about its intensity and spread only when we get to extensively ride the bike. It has a circular monochrome LCD instrument console that shows the basics - odometer, tripmeters, speedometer, tachometer, time, fuel level and mileage indicator. While it has smartphone connectivity, it’s only used for call, SMS, & email alerts – no navigation or music control. We have explained in detail about the XSR's features here.

The bike is offered in two accessory kits: Scrambler and Cafe Racer. The Scrambler kit includes a headlight guard, a flyscreen, bar-end mirrors, competition number panels on the side, and a seat cover. The cafe racer kit includes a headlight cowl, a different seat, and side panels. Here's a detailed breakdown of the XSR 155's accessories along with their prices.

    Yamaha XSR155 Cafe Racer

The Yamaha XSR155 is also the perfect base for modifications. In fact, there have been many custom bikes made around the world, and here are the top 5 best XSR 155 modifications we've ever seen.

    3.0
    Riding Posture & Comfort

    Rider Comfort

The XSR155 has an 810mm seat height, which might seem tall purely by the numbers. However its narrow profile allows shorter riders (about 5’7” and above) to place their feet easily on the ground. Its 134kg kerb weight is fairly light for its class, and should be easy to move the bike around. Its 170mm ground clearance should make going over tall-ish bumps and speed breakers an easy affair. However, the 10.4-litre fuel tank might not be adequate for riders who tour frequently.

    Green Yamaha XSR155

    Pillion Comfort

The pillion portion of the seat isn’t that high and should allow pillions to get on relatively easily. That said, don’t expect it to be comfortable or spacious enough to sit sideways – so your mum or partner may not like it if they prefer to sit that way on a bike.

    3.0
    Engine, Mileage & Performance

This XSR has the same 155cc liquid-cooled engine that we have seen on Yamaha R15 and MT-15. It makes 18.4PS at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm at 7,500rpm - same as the R15 V4. In the R15, the engine has a good balance of strong low and mid-range torque along with a punchy top-end, so expect similar performance on the XSR 155 as well. That said, we’ll reserve our final verdict once we get to ride the motorcycle.  But for a breakdown of the other differences between the three, you can check out our story here.

    Yamaha XSR155 Engine

    City & Highway Performance

It should offer a sweet balance of performance, as we have seen on the Yamaha MT 15. The MT can easily be ridden in low-mid revs in the city, and in higher revs out on the highway. Though, for overtaking, you might need you to shift down a gear or two depending on the speed you are at.

    Gearbox

Yamaha’s gearboxes are often slick, and we don’t expect this one to be any different. It has a slip-and-assist clutch which should result in a lighter clutch lever action, and prevent the rear wheel hopping in case of aggressive downshifts.

    3.0
    Handling & Ride Quality

    Brakes

The XSR has a 282mm disc up front and a 220mm at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. These brakes are quite good on the Yamaha MT-15, and should be sufficient for the XSR.

    Silver Yamaha XSR155

    Handling

The Yamaha XSR 155 has a Deltabox frame, which is known to give a bike fantastic handling characteristics. It’s paired to an inverted fork and a linked-type monoshock. Both wheels are 17 inches, and have a 100-section tyre at the front and a 140-section tyre at the rear. We can expect the XSR to leave you grinning after a spirited ride, especially through the twisties.

    Ride Quality

We hope the ride quality on the XSR is good enough to soak up bad patches on Indian roads.

    Rivals To Consider

Yamaha XSR155 goes up against the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, TVS Ronin and the Kawasaki W175. We have done a detailed comparison between the XSR155 and the Hunter 350 and also one with the TVS Ronin. You may also take a look at the Bullet 350 if you like relaxed riding. If you're looking for a retro bike from the same brand, but at a more affordable price point, then check out the FZ-X. We've even listed the differences between the FZ-X and the XSR155. If you prefer the same engine as the XSR but in a more modern package, then the Yamaha MT-15 makes for a compelling choice. If you're okay with aggressive riding posture, then you'll like the Yamaha R15. TVS has the Apache RTR 160 4V which goes up against the XSR is a heated battle as we have compared them both in detail.

Honda too makes some beautiful neo-retro bikes such as the CB150R and here's out it stands against the XSR155. Another gorgeous retro bike from Honda is the CB190SS and we have compared it with the XSR155 in detail. In India, Honda also offers the Unicorn, but it's a completely different bike when compared to the XSR (even though the engine capacity is somewhat similar).

You may also check out our list of the top 5 alternatives in the same price bracket as the XSR155.

This bike is awesome and stable
I choose this bike because of performance and mileage. Everything is perfect in the bike and the look and design is really awesome. It looks like a racer bike. This bike suit me a lot because I am 5.6. The performance of this bike is really awesome. I can play with this bike and this is really awesome for cruising or for racing because it has high performance gears and stability of the bike is awesome. I will recommend this to buy because I get sufficient mileage for city rides and if I want to go to highway, I can get around 36 to 37 which is really nice for long tours and rides. It comes with very less weight.

      joy ....very bad experience
Buying experience not so good, riding comfort is too bad, look is good, performence is not so good, handle bar and rider body in between distance unmatched, this is very uncomfortable for long drive like 40 to 50 km, its make pressure on hand, build quality also bad, a new bike also make noise from the body part.

      Most Underrated Bike
Wanted a low cc but stylish and retro motorcycle and here XSR became by my favourite. It can be easily maneuver in city traffics so that you don't have to be struggle to drive. Light weight as well. Gets you great mileage of around 45 plus. The riding posture is aggressive and yes, you can feel the ride and that's what actually matters. The seat is quite hard but instead of replacing it you can have a s seat cover of 400 rupees which would make it but softer. If you want entry level retro bike or kind of new into riding culture have it, feel it and then eventually according to your needs upgrade. It is stylish, you stop at red signal, people stop and ask about the bike. Most underrated bike you can say.

      XSR 155 in India review
Engine reliability is very good, reviews from the international audience suggests, the neo retro design looks damn good on roads. I've got so many compliments over the looks. Performance is insane too. The ride can be difficult to get used to at first but it gets better with time. The engine is super powerful and vibrations are very less. You can feel the power as you drive. The bike is pretty light and agile. And as you rev beyond 7k RPM, the VVA kicks in and the experience just get drastically better. I highly recommend this bike. Comfort might be one of the problems at the start but it gets better over time. Also, the customisation options are insane. You can just tune it to how you want it. Possibilities are endless.

I experienced so many bikes , but xsr is not doubt different from others. I suggest this type of bike always. I like this byke for it's great look . Yamaha xsr is a roadstar. You do not waste you're time to choice the bike and compare with same cc other bikes . I choose this type of vehicle because it's flat type seat and comfortable journey.
