Suzuki Gixxer SF Expert Review
After the popularity and success of Gixxer in the country, Suzuki launched the MotoGP version of the motorcycle named as Gixxer SF. The bike has been very popular since its launch and has certainly played a part in improving the company sales. Suzuki Gixxer SF gets the same 154.9cc four-stroke, air-cooled engine that also serves the Gixxer. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and churns out a peak power output of 14.6 bhp at 8,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The 2-valve carburetor mill delivers crisp throttle response with an uninterrupted power delivery.
Gixxer SF progresses on 100/80-17” front and 140/60-17” rear tubeless tyre wrapped on black colored alloy wheels. The suspension duties are carried out by telescopic forks at the front end and a swing arm mono shock absorber at the rear. The bike is fitted with 266mm disc brake at the front wheel with drum brake at the rear for providing the stopping power. The motorcycle’s looks resemble with Suzuki GSX 600R. Its front profile comes with a stylish GSX-R inspired headlamp design and clear lens indicators. It features a step-up seat that adds more appeal to its sports bike DNA and also offers good riding posture. The LED tail lamp on the SF is borrowed from its sibling, Gixxer.
The 150cc bike is 2,050mm long, 785mm wide, 1,085mm tall and has a wheelbase and minimum ground clearance of 1,330mm and 160mm respectively. The motorcycle also comes with a maintenance free battery that cuts down on maintenance costs. It has a fuel tank capacity of 12 liters and returns a mileage of 47 kmpl. The instrument cluster of the bike looks modern and has fully digital informative display featuring speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter and fuel gauge with tell tales for rider’s convenience.
Suzuki Gixxer SF is the cheapest fully faired motorcycle available in the Indian market and carries sporty looks. The front end of the bike features a GSX 600R inspired headlamp section with clear lens turn indicators, that makes it a true descendant of Suzuki GSX-R superbikes. A clear front visor is fitted above the headlamp with twin air vents that are placed at both sides of the headlamp. The fuel tank design of the bike remains same as its naked sibling. The bike gets a split grab rail and a long comfortable seat to offer convenience to both the rider and the pillion.
The instrument cluster of the bike is fully digital and displays speed, tachometer, fuel gauge, trip meter, odometer, gear position display and clock. The dimensions of Gixxer SF are 2,050mm x 785mm x 1,085mm (L x W x H) and its has a wheelbase and minimum ground clearance of 1,330mm and 160mm respectively. The bike has a kerb weight of 139 kg.
Gixxer SF gets its power from a 154.9cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, air cooled mill that comes mated to a 5-speed transmission system. The engine puts out a maximum power of 14.6 bhp at 8,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The bike uses multi-plate clutch assembly to transmit the power to the rear wheel. It comes to life with an easy electric start and employs chain drive as the mode of riding. The 2-valve carbureted engine delivers a smooth performance along with crisp throttle response. With this setup, the bike hits an impressive top speed and returns a decent fuel efficiency of 47 kmpl assisted by a fuel storage capacity of 12 liters.
Suzuki Gixxer SF rides on 100/80-17 front and 140/60-17 rear tubeless tyres that are wrapped on black alloy wheels. The stopping power is provided to the bike by 266mm disc brake at the front and drum brake at the rear wheel. The suspension system of the bike consists of telescopic forks up front and 7-step adjustable mono shock absorber at the rear end. The bike has a power to weight ratio of 105.03 bhp per ton that offers an uncompromised riding experience. A flat handlebar comes fitted in the bike that gives a good riding position.
Suzuki Gixxer SF comes with a handful of safety features like tubeless tyres that provide convenience to the rider by not deflating suddenly in case of a puncture. It has got a powerful 12V 35/35W headlight that illuminates the road well in the dark and bad weather conditions. A 266mm disc brake is also mounted at the front wheel that performs proper braking. A pass by switch ensures easy and safe overtaking and the clear lens turn indicators, when switched on, are visible even in daytime giving a better idea to the following traffic.
