The FZ-S Fi V4 is a 150cc sporty commuter bike from Yamaha and this version of the bike gets a few design and feature updates over the previous-generation (V3) model. Here’s how the bike performs in the real world.

The FZ-S Fi V4 has an eye-catching design and with the muscular body panels it gives the look of a bigger bike. The V4 update has added a redesigned LED headlight along with LED indicators, giving the bike a fresh overall look. 

The Yamaha FZ-S FI V4 is powered by a 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 12.4PS and 13.3Nm, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. In terms of performance, the FZ-S FI V4 isn’t really exciting, but its laid-back and refined engine offers an effortless and relaxed ride in the city, thanks to its tractable engine which pulls effortlessly even at 25kmph in fifth gear.

The bike is E20 compatible, which means that the bike can run on a 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol mix as well. The FZ-S delivered a real-world tested mileage of 70kmpl on the highway and 54kmpl in the city. Its tractable engine and light weight are the reasons behind the good mileage figures.

The Yamaha FZ-S Fi V4 handles well in the city and the bike overall offers a decent riding experience. The gearbox is smooth, the clutch is light and the throttle is responsive and makes it easy to glide through the traffic. The suspension setup is also tuned for a comfortable ride, making it easy for the bike to go over potholes and bumps with ease.

The riding posture on the FZ-S Fi V4 is a relaxed one thanks to the upright handlebar and slightly rear-set footpegs. The seat is wide and well-padded, providing a comfortable experience for both the rider and the pillion. Additionally the grab rails are easy to access as well.

The bike is also able to provide a good experience when going on long rides, without the rider feeling tired or uncomfortable.

The FZ-S FI V4 gets an updated LED headlight with an all-LED lighting setup. It features a negatively lit LCD instrument console that gives readouts like speed, fuel level, time, tachometer readings along with trip meter and odometer readouts. The console also displays basic tell-tale lights along with mileage and the last parked location. The FZ-S gets smartphone connectivity and related features like call/sms alerts but does not get turn-by-turn navigation.

The bike also comes with a side-stand engine cut-off feature. The FZ-S FI V4 also gets traction control, but it's not really needed for a bike in the 150cc segment, making it an unnecessary feature.

The Yamaha FZ-S FI V4 is a good bike for the daily commute. It may not be the ideal choice for those who want a sporty and exciting bike. That said, it can be a great choice for someone who wants a simple, lightweight and versatile commuter with excellent mileage and Yamaha’s trademark reliability.
