DesertX Expert Review
Overview
The Ducati DesertX is Ducati’s hardcore adventure motorcycle, purpose-built for off-road exploration. Drawing design inspiration from the Cagiva Elefant and rally raid bikes of the past, the DesertX blends Ducati’s sporty performance with genuine long-distance touring and off-road capabilities.
Ducati DesertX Price
The Ducati DesertX is priced at Rs 18,33,200, the DesertX Discovery is at Rs 21,78,200, and the DesertX Rally is priced at Rs 23,70,800 (all prices ex-showroom).
Ducati DesertX Colour Options

Ducati DesertX Variants
The Ducati DesertX comes in 3 variants: DesertX, DesertX Discovery, and DesertX Rally.

Ducati DesertX Design
The Ducati DesertX is styled like a modern rally raid motorcycle - with a tall and aggressive stance. It gets distinctive twin round headlights with DRLs, a compact front fairing, slim bodywork, a high-mounted upswept exhaust, and a large aluminium sump guard. The DesertX Discovery is the touring focused variant and gets a larger windscreen, engine guards, and side panniers. The DesertX Rally, as the name suggests - is the more off-road oriented variant and comes with a front beak and a flatter single-pice seat.

Ducati DesertX Engine
The Ducati DesertX is powered by a dual-cylinder, 937cc, liquid-cooled, ‘Testastretta 11° L-Twin’ (V-Twin) engine. It makes 110PS at 9,250rpm, 92Nm at 6,500rpm, and is paired to a six-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter. This motor is shared with the Monster, Multistrada V2, Hypermotard 950, and Supersport 950.

Ducati DesertX Chassis, Brakes, Wheels, Suspension
The Ducati DesertX is built on a tubular steel trellis frame, fully adjustable KYB suspension, and has a 21-litre fuel tank. The standard variant and the Discovery get a 46mm inverted fork with 230mm of travel and monoshock with 220mm of travel. The Rally has a 48mm inverted fork with 250mm travel and monoshock with 240mm of travel. It gets twin 320mm front discs with Brembo Monobloc radial calipers and a 265mm rear disc with a 2-piston floating caliper. It rides on tubeless cross-spoke wheels with a 21-inch front, 90-section tyre and an 18-inch rear, 150-section tyre; the Rally has centre spoke wheels with tubed tyres - though all get Pirelli STR tyres, with the option of upgrading to Pirelli Trail 2s. The standard and Discovery variants have a 875mm seat height and 250mm ground clearance, the Rally bumps it up to 910mm and 280mm, respectively. The DesertX and Discovery weigh 210kg, while the Rally weighs 211kg (both wet weights, without fuel).

Ducati DesertX Features
The Ducati DesertX has all-LED lighting, self cancelling turn indicators, a USB charging port and a 5-inch TFT console with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, 6 riding modes: Sport, Touring, Urban, Wet, Enduro and Rally. Electronics include ride-by-wire, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, cruise control, bi-directional quickshifter, Öhlins adjustable steering damper, and 3-level cornering ABS. The Discovery comes equipped with additional accessories like panniers, heated grips, and a centre stand.

Ducati DesertX Competition
The Ducati DesertX rivals the Triumph Tiger 900 series, Honda Africa Twin, KTM 890 Adventure R, and BMW F 900 GS twins. Although the DesertX is priced higher and sits with bikes from a segment above like the Triumph Tiger 1200 line-up, KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, BMW R 1300 GS range, and even Ducati Multistrada V4 Standard.
