United Kingdom based iconic cult bike manufacturer, Harley Davidson is rapidly increasing the excitement of cruiser motorcycles in the Indian auto market by opening its new products range of motorcycles which are available at the newly opened H-D outlets in India. The company is planning to promote the Harley Owners Group (HOG) club in India for cruise biking by the 2010-end. Presently, Harley Davidson has one of the largest owners groups, which is joined by more than 1.4 million members across the world.

Anoop Prakash, Managing Director of Harley Davidson India said, “We are expanding and shaping the cruise biking in India. We will develop experience biking through many events. We are already organising boot camps and test rides and will add a completely new inning in cruise biking.

The company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Harley Davidson India, has recently started selling its brand new cruiser motorcycles in the country which will be available between Rs. 6.95 lakh to Rs. 34.95 lakh. Besides, the company is also going ahead with launch exclusive brands developing and marketing by the current calender year. Harley Davidson India Director (Marketing) Sanjay Tripathi said each dealer will have a HOG account, which will have direct coordination with a national HOG chapter. The company has over 40 models internationally and all the models are available with higher engine capacities from 883cc and goes up to 1550cc.

The iconic bike maker had already got permission to start operations in India in 2007, but some major issue were creating big problems for the company like import duty of over 100 per cent that then hold back its plans for India. On the other hand, some of the other major two-wheeler players are also offering higher end capacity superbikes in the country including Ducati, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and KTM.
