Karizma ZMR Expert Review
Hero brought the modified variant of this popular premium commuter, Karizma ZMR. This time, the company has given it not just the cosmetic changes, but also improved it mechanically to compete with other bikes of the segment. Now the bike more appealing and has got its first proper upgrade in 11 years. The design is enhanced by raising fairing and adding new graphics but still looks very much similar to the earlier version. The company has tried to retain its charm and style of its previous ZMR version. The tail lamp section has been borrowed from the EBR1190 consisting of the wider section tyres to give it an aggressive look. The old ZMR bike wasn’t up to the mark and presence of Bajaj Pulsar apparently ruined the sales of the bike.
The new Hero Karizma ZMR looks better as compared to earlier version, thanks to some newly added features that includes sporty LED tail light and winkers - the prettiest part of the motorcycle. The company has made little changes in the instrument cluster, it still features the same digital unit, which is big and easier to read. It also houses a speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, odometer, fuel gauge and a fuel efficiency indicator. However, the addition of side stand warning is another feature offered in the new ZMR. The all new design of the headlamps are inspired from the racing superbike giving it the young and dynamic feel. The rear of the bike tapers down and the seating position is a bit low but still gives you a sporty feel while riding.
Coming to the performance, Hero Karizma ZMR is equipped with 223cc 4-stroke, single cylinder, air-cooled engine with advanced fuel injection that generates the maximum power of 20bhp and a peak torque of 19.7Nm. Power is delivered to the rear wheel through a five-speed manual gearbox. The company has used the same Diamond shape frame. Supple ride quality is assured by the telescopic suspension at front while swing arm with 5 step adjustable GRS system at the rear helps in soaking bumps thereby providing a safe ride. The tubeless tyres with 18-inch aluminium cast wheels having tyre size of 80/100 in front and 120/80 in rear offer better grip.
Braking efficiency is increased by adding disc brakes of 276mm at front and 240mm at the rear. However, Hero Karizma ZMR still not got the ABS, a feature available in its rivals. The kerb weight of the bike is 157Kg with a sufficient fuel capacity of 15.3 litres are good enough for going on a long journeys. It takes 3.6 seconds to reach 0-60kmph and can go up to the top speed of 129 km/hr. The company claims the mileage to be 37km/l which is not good enough. The new version of Hero Motocorp certainly gives you better performance but disappoints on the mileage front.
Design
Hero has spent enough time in making it look best in the segment. In comparison to the previous version, the new Karizma ZMR has a revised front profile and rear end. The headlamp section witnesses one of the most impressive modifications, which now incorporates dual projector lamps stacked in a vertical manner. In addition, sharp clear lens turning blinkers are also embedded on the front cowl. The bike is crafted on a diamond type chassis to give it a strong and rigid structure. Coming to the rear profile of the bike, the tail lamp section is also refreshed, which is inspired from Erik Buell Racing’s iconic bike - EBR1190. The rectangular LED tail lamp that is mounted separately on the rear fender looks ravishing along with clear lens blinkers. The hard work behind can be easily felt.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Hero Karizma ZMR is powered by 223cc, four-stroke, single cylinder, OHC engine. The mill is mated to a five-speed transmission system and churns out an impressive peak power of 20bhp at 8,000rpm with a maximum torque of 19.7Nm at 6,500rpm. The fuel injected engine pushes the bike to a maximum speed of 129kmph. The machine uses the Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System (AMI) that was also employed in its previous versions. It also features an oil cooler that proves convenient while handling the engine oil temperature.
Handling & Ride Quality
Hero Karizma ZMR is equipped with 276mm disc brake at the front and 240mm disc brake at the rear that perform braking duties impressively. Its suspension kit includes telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at the front and swing arm with five-step adjustable GRS (Gas Reservoir Suspension) system at the rear. The GRS system ensures a comfortable ride even during long runs. Hero MotoCorp has fitted 80/100-18”-47P tyre at the front and 120/80-18”-62P tyre at the rear. The tubeless tyres are mounted over stylish 18” black alloy wheels that proves convenient and provides better grip.
Features
Hero Karizma ZMR is equipped with a bunch of safety features so that the safety of the rider never goes for a toss while enjoying a true motorcycling experience. The bike has 276mm disc brake at the front and 240mm disc brake at the rear to perform the stopping action efficiently. Its wide tubeless tyres offer a better grip on the road and do not deflate suddenly in case of a puncture, hence giving enough time to the rider to reach his desired destination.
