Yamaha FZS-FI V3 Expert Review
Overview
Among the most premium and reliable models in the entry-level 150cc performance bikes category, the Yamaha FZS-FI V3 remains a fan favourite.
This bike from Yamaha is known for its muscular styling, refined and reliable engine, good ride quality, and effortless handling. This is the third-generation model in the 150cc Yamaha FZ series that debuted in 2008 and became an overnight success in India.
Although Yamaha has also launched the FZS-FI V4 in India, they continue to sell this previous generation V3 as it is a bit more affordable than the V4.

Design
The Yamaha FZS-FI V3 has a muscular design with a minimalist bikini fairing, having a split LED headlight with integrated daytime running LEDs. There are minimal body decals on the fuel tank and the front fender.
The fuel tank has a chiselled look with thoughtfully designed knee recesses that are accommodating for taller riders as well. At the rear, the FZS-FI V3 has a small tail lamp positioned at the top of the rear fender. The overall build quality and fit-and-finish levels are quite good and are on par with, if not better than, other bikes in the segment.
It is available in 3 colour options: Matte Red, Matte Grey, and Dark Knight (Black).

Features
Yamaha has equipped the FZS-FI V3 with an LED headlight that provides decent illumination on dark roads. It also features a fully digital LCD instrument console that shows speed, rpm, fuel level, and other standard details. Though the instrument console offers Bluetooth connectivity through the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect app for call and message alerts, it lacks turn-by-turn navigation.
Riders can customise their FZ-S FI V3 with accessories such as muffler covers, tank pads, skid plates, and rear footrests. The bike also includes usual convenient features such as a pass switch and an engine kill switch.

Riding Posture & Comfort
The Yamaha FZS-FI V3 features a mostly upright riding posture but with easy-to-reach handlebar and slightly rear-set footpegs. The upright riding posture minimises strain on the back, shoulders, and wrists, ensuring comfort during long rides. This handlebar and seat design help with easy manoeuvring and allows even shorter riders to get their feet on the ground comfortably.
The well-cushioned seat, with a seat height of 790mm, provides ample support for both the rider and pillion. A well-padded seat and a manageable overall weight of 135kg make it comfortable for riders to easily manoeuvre the bike when it is at a standstill.

Engine, Mileage & Performance
The Yamaha FZS-FI V3 is powered by a 149cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine, which prioritizes mileage over outright power. The engine produces 12.4PS of power at 7250 rpm and maximum torque of 13.3Nm @ 5500 rpm.
Compared to other 150-160cc commuters, these performance figures might not be best-in-class. However, the power and torque outputs of the Yamaha FZS-FI V3 are decent enough for riding in stop-and-go traffic. The bike doesn't provide instantaneous acceleration but offers enough torque in the mid-range to easily overtake traffic on the road. Combined with short gear ratios, the bike excels in city driving conditions.
Our tests showed an impressive fuel economy of 49.1 kmpl in city conditions and 55.42 kmpl on highways.

Handling & Ride Quality
The Yamaha FZS-FI V3 feels agile to ride, quickly changing directions while maintaining stability while riding around corners. The rugged frame and soft-tuned suspension with a telescopic fork at the front and preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear effectively absorb bumps and potholes.
Furthermore, the 282mm front disc brake and 220mm rear disc brake deliver a reassuring bite, complementing the bike's overall handling capabilities.

Should you buy Yamaha FZS-FI V3
The FZ series began as a sporty 160cc bike with the FZ16 in India. If you are looking for the same sportiness in the FZ-S FI V3 due to its lineage, you might feel disappointed. The bike does not perform at levels that the previous models did. It is now more of a practical commuter with some sporty elements and muscular visual appeal.
However, the engine characteristics, the upright riding position, and urban styling make it an excellent daily ride, especially for those looking for manageable power and good mileage in a 150cc motorcycle. But the FZS-FI V3's value-for-money factor has reduced as it is priced at Rs 1,21,700 (ex-showroom Delhi), and the FZS-FI V4 costs just Rs 7,500 more and offers an improved headlight and more features such as traction control.

Yamaha FZS-FI V3 Pros and Cons
Things We Like
- Muscular design and chunky tank extensions give the FZ a big bike appeal
- Despite looking big, the FZ is very lightweight and handles really well
- Engine is very fuel efficient and gives good mileage for a bike in the 150cc segment
Things We Don't Like
- Switchgear quality feels quite basic and not what you’d expect at this price point
- Misses out on features like turn-by-turn navigation
- Headlight doesn’t have the desired output and doesn’t do a good job of illuminating the road ahead

- Good Bike for 150cc variantI chose Yamaha FZ due to the bike body style and of course for the Yamaha brand. The Bike comes with good mileage and riding on this bike is also comfortable. Exhaust sound is good and one thing about this bike which is different from other 150 cc bikes is the mileage and maintenance which is cost effective. Overall the ride is positive as the seats are comfortable within city ride. The long ride becomes difficult for the person who is seating on the back due to the seat density. Bike pickup is very poor, this is the biggest cons. If you are looking for a bike which gives you sporty look with great mileage then YES, Yamaha FZ V3 is the ultimate choice. But I would also recommend to check for other brands as well such as Honda and TVS.Read More1
- More than averageI have seen many bikes which are more better than this but the problem is that they are more costly than this but when I found this then I get to know that this bike is under range and looks are superb. Every thing is fine but I think the exhaust should make more noice than this because I buy this bike because I wanted to feel that how it feels when exhaust is burst within your ear time you ride and now I'm not much satisfied . I surely will recommend this bike because it comes in range and performance is better than average which is a good point . On the other hand the bike look awesome from distant and nearer . So go ahead broRead More2 1

- Comfort and strong service networkI chose this bike because I had a friend who had a different brand but recommended checking this model due to its comfort and service network. I liked that the service centres were many and parts likely accessible, so I felt confident. My experience has been positive. I have had no major failures and service visits have been smooth. I do regular maintenance and the bike has returned steady performance. One wet evening ride surprised me by how stable the bike felt. The ride continues to make me happy. Yes, I’d recommend this model if you value worry‑free ownership and good after‑sales support. It may not be the fastest out there but if you want a solid, comfortable, reliable bike for city and some open roads, this is a good bet.Read More
- Good showroom deal and colorI picked this bike because I wanted a brand new bike after years of renting and I liked the showroom deal. The colour I wanted was in stock and the dealer was friendly so I bought. It felt like the right moment. My ride so far has been joyous. I enjoy the novelty of new bike feel, the fresh paint, the quiet engine. I’ve taken it to weekend morning rides with friends and felt part of the biking crowd. The handling is nimble and the seat comfortable. It has been a pleasant upgrade for me. Yes I strongly recommend this bike to first‑time buyers or those upgrading from older bikes. It gives the feel of a new machine, decent comfort, good style and usable performance. If your daily ride is important and you want a bike that fits in easily, go for this.Read More
- Low vibration for smooth rideI chose this bike because I once had bike that vibrated too much and made my arms sore after ide. I wanted smoother experience and I read reviews that this bike is refined with low vibration. That was important. Riding has indeed been smoother than expected. I notice less shake at moderate speeds and the engine hum is gentle. After a one‑hour ride I feel fresh rather than tired. I still respect it and maintain it, but so far the low vibration claim holds true for me. Yes I would say yes, purchase if refinement and comfort matter to you. It may not blast off like high performance bikes but for daily cruising and moderate trips it delivers. If you value comfort over raw power then you’ll be satisfied with this bike.Read More
- Comfortable for two ridersI picked this bike because I wanted something comfortable for two persons (me and my spouse) and this model offered a wide seat and upright handle. I saw an edition with a brown‑seat special version and that sealed the deal. I liked the pillion comfort too. My experience riding with my spouse has been nice. We did a 100‑km countryside loop and neither of us felt uncomfortable. The ride was steady, the wind didn’t buffet much and the seat did its job. In city rides the bike sits upright and is easy to ride. The motor runs smooth and I feel safe. Yes, I’d recommend this bike especially for those who ride with pillion regularly or for city plus weekend use. It gives space and comfort for two, runs reliably and looks decent. If you want a practical bike that also looks good, this ticks many boxes.Read More
- Smooth handling for city ridesI chose this bike because one of my neighbours had it and praised its smooth handling. I tested it and found I could manoeuvre easily in tight lanes in our city. That convinced me. Also the design looked tidy and not too crazy, so I felt it suited my daily use. Riding has been smooth, pleasurable and low stress. I avoid big highways but on whatever road I travel the bike performs well. Brakes feel responsive and gear shifts are light. I once took a turn on wet road and the bike handled it without drama. The ride quality is good. Definitely yes I would recommend to someone who uses bike for daily commuting and occasional weekend rides. It suits urban roads and moderate rides. If you expect top speed or racetrack style thrills maybe there are other bikes, but for everyday use this is a smart pick.Read More
- Affordable with trusted brandI selected this bike because I had a short budget but didn’t want to compromise on brand or comfort. The Yamaha name gave me comfort. The FZS‑FI V3 model offered the features I wanted and the right size. I liked the colour and the showroom deal looked good so I bought it. The ride has been relaxing. I use it for the daily commute and often take it for evening rides around town. I find the seat height comfortable, and I don’t feel over‑exerted. The fuel consumption has been decent too, which is a relief. One day I rode for two hours non‑stop and came home without feeling sore. Yes I recommend it for budget minded riders who still want quality and feel. It gives good value for money, has good comfort and decent performance. If you aren’t chasing super sport bike speeds and want a well rounded bike, this is a strong option.Read More
