And it’ll likely be launched in mid-2024

Hot on the heels of the Scrambler 400 X’s India-unveil, there’s now news of a Scram 440 being in the pipeline! The project is reportedly codenamed D4K, so no, this isn’t the one based on Royal Enfield’s upcoming 450cc liquid-cooled platform, which is christened the LS450.

The brand will likely increase the bore or stroke of the existing 411cc air and oil-cooled engine that we’ve seen on the Scram 411 and the Himalayan. And that begs the reason: Why the Scram 440 while the 411 exists. Well, we think the Scram 440 could eventually replace the Scram 411. It’s quite a nice engine to go off-road on but it does feel a bit underpowered and dated among its rivals. Since the 440cc engine will be based on the already-existing 411cc heart, the gain in the output figures may not be substantial enough to justify a separate product line existing in parallel to the Scram 411. Hence it makes sense for the Scram 440 to be a replacement to the Scram 411.

So why not make it a liquid-cooled unit for more power? Affordability is the answer. The Scram 440 will obviously slot below the Himalayan 450 and be fairly more affordable. The ones looking for a more powerful bike and don’t mind spending more money too, could then consider the Himalayan 450. That said, like the current Scram 411, we expect the upcoming one will have a fair bit of off-road cred too.

The Scram 440 could reportedly be launched in India in the next 12 months (possibly around mid-2024) and we think it could be priced around Rs 2.30 lakh (ex-showroom). For perspective, the Scram 411 starts from Rs 2,06,394 (ex-showroom Delhi).

It’ll then go up against the Yezdi Scrambler, Honda CB350RS and the upcoming Triumph Scrambler 400 X. Of the slew of upcoming Royal Enfield bikes incoming, the Scrambler 650 was recently spied and the Himalayan 450 was teased. The brand has a lot of bikes in store for us and we’re excited!
