Husqvarna launched its new flagship motorcycle in India, the Svartpilen 401, with a new design, engine, chassis and other changes for Rs 2,92,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The updated Husqvarna Vitpilen 250 was also launched alongside the all-new Svartpilen 401 for Rs 2,25,352/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). Husqvarna is also set to launch the Svartpilen 901 soon for the European market. It was teased, and is based on the KTM 890 Duke. Husqvarna has discontinued the Svartpilen 250 in India, now the bikemaker offers only the updated Vitpilen 250 and Svartpilen 401. The flagship adventure tourer from Husqvarna, the Norden 901, has been updated with new tech and colours abroad. However, its India launch is unlikely as of now.

Which Country Owns Husqvarna?

Husqvarna originates from Sweden. One of the oldest motorcycle manufacturers from Europe, Husqvarna started as a maker of muskets in 1689. However, the Swedish brand shifted its focus to making motorcycles in 1903. Husqvarna continued to have its presence in the European markets till the end of the 20th century, and in the meanwhile, the motorcycle division of the company was sold to Cagiva in 1987, which was later on acquired by MV Agusta. In 2013, Pierer Mobility AG (KTM's parent company) purchased Husqvarna motorcycles, and the Swedish bike maker has been part of KTM since then.

Is Husqvarna Owned By Bajaj?

In 2019, Husqvarna, which was already making its small-capacity motorcycles in India at KTM’s production facility shared with Bajaj Auto, announced the sale of its motorcycles in India. Husqvarna debuted in India at 2019 India Bike Week with two of its models, Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250. Based on KTM Duke 250, these Husqvarna bikes were sold through KTM’s dealerships and later retailed via KTM-Husqvarna co-branded dealerships.

Husqvarna is not owned by Bajaj but by Pierer Mobility AG, an Austrian company that also owns KTM, Husqvarna, and the GasGas brand of motorcycles. In 2021, Bajaj Auto, which had 46.5 per cent stake in KTM, swapped it to a 49.9 percent stake in PTW Holding AG, the parent company of the KTM group. With this, Bajaj Auto became an indirect stakeholder in KTM as well as Husqvarna, as Pierer Mobility AG owns both of these European motorcycle brands.

Is Husqvarna Part of KTM?

In 2007, Husqvarna found a new owner in BMW Motorrad, which continued to sell Husqvarna motorcycles in Europe and other parts of the world. It was in 2012 when BMW Motorrad introduced Husqvarna in India for the first time, with its premium naked roadster named Nuda. The Husqvarna Nuda was imported and sold by BMW Motorrad in India in limited numbers before the motorcycle was discontinued in the country.

The second chance for Husqvarna in India reignited when Pierer Mobility AG, the parent company of KTM, acquired the Swedish brand from BMW Motorrad in 2013. Husqvarna then started its operations under KTM, with which it began sharing its platforms and engines but with its own distinctive design language.In short, Husqvarna is not directly owned or a part of KTM; instead, it is part of its parent company, Pierer Mobility AG, which also owns the GasGas, MV Agusta and CFMoto brands.

Who Manufactures Husqvarna In India?

Husqvarna motorcycles are manufactured alongside the smaller-capacity KTM bikes and premium Bajaj bikes at KTM-Bajaj Auto’s production facility in Chakan, Maharashtra. The production facility makes smaller-capacity Husqvarna motorcycles with 125cc, 250cc and 400cc engines. All the Husqvarna motorcycles are sold through KTM’s dealer network in India, which has a network of more than 450 dealerships across the country.

While the overall production of small-capacity Husqvarna motorcycles takes place at Bajaj Auto's production facility in India, the project's original design and approvals happen at Husqvarna's hub in Sweden.
