About Triumph Scrambler 1200

The 2021 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XC and XE variants were unveiled earlier this month. In addition to these two bikes, Triumph has also introduced a new Scrambler 1200 Steve McQueen Edition, limited to just 1,000 units worldwide. To know more about what these bikes pack, check out our report. The Steve McQueen edition has been launched in India at Rs 13,75,000 (ex-showroom India). You can read more about this 1000-unit limited edition bike in our launch report here.

The 2021 iteration packs a BS6/Euro 5-compliant 1200cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine, which churns out the same 90PS and 110Nm as before. That said, the peak torque comes in at 4,500rpm (instead of 3950rpm) and power at 7,250rpm (instead of 7,400rpm). It is paired with the same 6-speed transmission with an assist-and-slipper clutch as before. Electronic aids include five riding modes along with switchable traction control and ABS. The XE variant gets an additional ‘Offroad Pro’ mode along with cornering ABS and traction control.

The Scrambler 1200 sports Showa inverted fork and twin Ohlins shock absorbers -- both fully adjustable, offering 200mm travel. The XE model gets a fatter 47mm front fork, with 250mm wheel travel at both ends. The two bikes come to a halt using twin 320mm discs with Brembo radial calipers at the front and a 255mm rear disc. In the scrambler genre, the Ducati Scrambler 1100 almost matches the Triumph’s engine performance. However, if it is the off-road ability that you are looking at, the smaller-engined Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is a more competent rival from the Italian manufacturer.

Scrambler 1200 Expert Review

The whole purpose of a scrambler is rather straightforward: a minimalistic motorcycle that is designed to go over rough terrain quickly and effortlessly. Quite popular in the mid 20th century, scramblers were essentially production bikes that were stripped down and tweaked to go over territories that are beyond the end
