A humble scooter, e-dirtbike and an insane hybrid, this EICMA made us all starry-eyed

The EICMA 2022 had something in store for everyone including petrol-powered fantasies, green EVs and wild wild concepts. Check out what electric two-wheelers caught our eye at EICMA 2022.

Honda EM1 e:

Entering the electric scooter space outside of select Asian markets is none other than Honda. The Japanese bikemaker unveiled the EM1 e: electric scooter for the European markets which looks suspiciously similar to the Honda U-Go. It packs a hub motor, and swappable battery tech and claims a 40km range, which is quite less. That said, this is unlikely to come to India, as Honda will be developed from the ground up for our conditions, could it be the Honda Activa Electric? We’ll find out soon enough.

Kawasaki Ninja & Z Electric Bikes

Kawasaki showcased its electric bikes, the Ninja and Z EVs, in a pre-production-ready stage at EICMA 2022. Both bikes will be powered by removable batteries of capacities up to 3kWh, and will be going on sale in 2023. Despite going green, both bikes retain the aggressive design language of Kawasaki with its edgy styling.

Kawasaki Ninja HEV

While the Kawasaki Ninja HEV takes design inspiration from the petrol-powered Ninja, it gets just half a fairing. And the hybrid system is quite interesting as well. Both the engine, which is a parallel-twin unit derived from the Ninja 400, and the electric motor propels the bike independently as well as seamlessly transitioning from one to the other depending on the performance required. It is slated to join Kawasaki’s lineup by 2024.

Aprilia Electrica

The Aprilia Electrica Project fuses the power excellence of Aprilia in an electric supermoto, and does not fail to mesmerise us. While the details are scarce, the prototype seems to be running a mid-mounted motor with a chain-drive system. And if we talk about the design, well, it is Aprilia, of course it looks good with sharp and futuristic styling.

Cake Bukk

Ending this electrifying list is Cake Bukk – a small dirt e-bike with insane performance capabilities. It looks simple, clean, minimal and very impressive. It packs a centrally mounted motor producing 16kW of peak power with 420Nm at the wheel. All at just 85kg, making it a light mud slugger. It claims a top speed of 100kmph and more than 3 hours of run time, although the actual range figure hasn’t been shared. Sadly, you won’t be able to have the cake and eat it too, as it is only limited to 50 units. And obviously, it won’t be heading to our shores.
