Who Owns Aprilia?
The ownership of Aprilia went into the hands of Piaggio & C. SpA in 2004. The latter is a popular manufacturer of three-wheelers and scooters. With the acquisition, it became the world's fourth-largest motorcycle group.
Here in India, Aprilia comes under the ownership of Piaggio, along with Vespa. Piaggio introduced the Aprilia brand in India in 2016, with the SR 150 as its first product. The Aprilia SR 150 was the only performance-oriented scooter in the 150cc scooter segment at the time.
What Country Is Aprilia From?
Aprilia originally hails from Italy, and was founded just after World War II ended. Alberto Beggio was its founder, and the company started its operations as a bicycle manufacturer, with its first factory set up in a small Italian town named Noale in the province of Venice. Aprilia entered the motorcycle production business in 1968 when it introduced a 50cc motorcycle at its Italian production facility.
In the following years, Aprilia gradually shifted its business into making 50cc, 125cc, 250cc and 350cc two-wheelers while being heavily involved (and being successful) in motorsports. In the later years of the 20th century, Aprilia started making affordable performance-oriented scooters, followed by venturing into the middleweight and litre-class segments with sports bikes and adventure tourers.
How to Pronounce Aprilia?
Aprilia is an Italian name usually pronounced in the Italian accent, with its general pronunciation being “ay-pree-lee-uh”.
Where is Aprilia Made?
Aprilia currently shares its production facility with Vespa at Baramati (Maharashtra), a factory fully owned by Piaggio Group. Along with the entire Vespa range of 125cc and 150cc scooters, a few models from Aprilia are also manufactured in this production facility, including the SR 125 range, SR 160, SXR 125, SXR 160 and the RS 457, which is its only Aprilia bike made in India.
Aprilia also sold the SRV 850 in the past, which was the costliest and the most powerful scooter in India.
Why is Aprilia Famous?
Aprilia has a rich legacy in the world of motorsports, particularly well known in the 125cc, 250cc and 500cc Grand Prix categories of the FIM World Championship. Besides making a mark in the FIM Superbike World Championship, Aprilia is among the most popular teams participating in the MotoGP. While Aprilia has been a successful name in motorsports, it has also charmed experienced motorcyclists with its extremely capable, performance-oriented bikes, such as the RSV4 and Tuono range.
Is Aprilia a Premium Brand?
The RSV4 and Tuono range from Aprilia already has a wide fan base. These two world-class motorcycles helped Aprilia to establish itself in the premium segment. However, Aprilia also offers smaller-capacity motorcycles and scooters. in India, its range starts from as low as 125cc in the scooter category. Compared to other Indian rivals, Aprilia can be considered a more premium brand.

Aprilia Scooters User Reviews
- Aprilia SR 125Owned Aprilia for over 2 years / 15000km +I have owned the Aprilia SR125 facelift for over two years and 15,000 + km. The scooter offers sporty performance with excellent handling and braking. Its stiffer suspension enhances high-speed stability, although the initial pickup is lower than previous Aprilia models. The BS6 facelift boasts impressive mileage, averaging 45-50 km/l at speeds of 50-60 km/h. Service costs are reasonable and lower than those of the Ntorq, which my friend purchased around the same time. The build quality is excellent, with no signs of cost-cutting, providing great value for money. The service is reliable and avoids unnecessary charges. This unique bike is rare, and I am very happy with my choice.Read MoreWas this review helpful?

- Aprilia SXR 125Aprilia SXR 125 is the best scooterAs a 6.2 feet tall person, Aprilia SXR 125 is the best scooter for me. The headlight is very bright. The experience of riding this bike is good. While riding at higher speeds, I heard a small sound from the engine. Pricing for service is reasonable. Brakes push inwards or work in the other direction. Suspension is a bit stiff. I am disappointed as I was waiting for the Bluetooth feature.Read MoreWas this review helpful?
- Aprilia SR 160Aprilia SR 160 is the least reliable scooterAprilia SR 160 is the least reliable scooter in the world, cannot start even after stopping. All the service center provides endless amount of incompetence and services; this is a wreck of a scooter, avoid it completely. The quality of material used is very low, the odometer and the trip toggle are practically useless. The fuel indicator is also unreliable, not depicting the correct amount of fuel remaining in the tank.Read MoreWas this review helpful?1
