Overview
The Aprilia SR 160 stands out in the small engine scooter with its sporty looks and with its performance-oriented nature.
Design
The SR 160's design is fresh and modern, with subtle changes in its latest iteration that add to its sporty appeal. Features like the LED headlight, faux carbon fiber finish, and a redesigned taillight make it eye-catching. However, some elements like the turn indicators could have been improved.
Features
The SR 160 has an all-digital instrument console with a mode button for on-the-fly information access. It displays details like fuel efficiency, top speed, and ambient temperature. Optional add-ons include a Bluetooth module for call and message alerts. However, it lacks turn-by-turn navigation, which some competitors offer. The scooter also comes with an underseat light and USB charger as standard.
Riding Posture & Comfort
The SR 160's rider triangle remains the same, and we feel that the new seat could’ve had more padding to ensure a more comfortable ride. Footboard space is sufficient, but the scooter doesn't offer a multi-function keyhole or an external fuel filler cap, which could have been convenient.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Under the hood, the SR 160 retains its predecessor's mechanics. It’s powered by the 160cc 3-valve single-cylinder engine that makes 11PS and 11.6Nm. It offers lively acceleration once it crosses 30kmph. The motor's refinement has improved, although there's some vibration at higher speeds. The scooter is comfortable for city commutes, but achieving triple-digit speeds will take a while.
Handling & Ride Quality
With 14-inch wheels, the SR 160 boasts stability and confidence around corners. Its agility and ride quality have improved, offering a more comfortable experience than its predecessor. However, the braking performance, while adequate, could have had more bite, and the single-channel ABS may lead to the rear wheel locking up under hard braking.
Should you buy Aprilia SR 160
The updated SR 160, though pricey, remains a fun and enjoyable scooter with good stability and ride quality. However, considering the competition, especially the Yamaha Aerox 155, which offers more value for money, the SR 160's pricing might deter some buyers.
