Overview
Vespa 125 Expert Overview
The Vespa 125 offers a premium feel that hardly any other brand can replicate in India. It comes with a timeless Italian styling. It may not be the most powerful or feature-packed but it manages to draw attention quite well. That feeling of being special is the reason that makes people walk into a Vespa showroom.
The Vespa 125 represents the Italian brand’s entry point into the Indian market. However, it doesn’t feel cheap in any manner. It retains the same craftsmanship and elegance associated with any Vespa scooter. It is not the most practical scooter in the market, but it promises exclusivity. While it also offers solid build quality and a refined riding experience, its graceful appearance is what makes it stand out in the ordinary commuter crowd.
Design
You cannot mistake a Vespa for anything else, and that applies to the Vespa 125 as well. It retains the brand's iconic silhouette, curved apron and flawlessly flowing end-to-end bodywork that have defined Vespas for generations. You can instantly notice how its steel chassis feels a class above the scooters with plastic panels. Moreover, the classy high-quality paint finish and chrome highlights further uplift its premium feel. All in all, this Vespa has got a lot of personality in its design.
2026 marks 80 years of Vespa’s existence, and in a bid to celebrate its 80-year anniversary, it has launched the Vespa Tech 80 limited edition scooter, which will be on sale till the end of 2026 only. The scooter comes in a shade of green called Verde Pastello, which is inspired by the first-ever Vespa from 1946. It also gets the ‘Vespa 80’ branding on the apron and the badging of ‘80 years of Vespa, Est. 1946’ on the inside of the apron.
Alongside this, the brand also launched five new colours of the Vespa 125: Lilac Euforico, Azzuro Provenza, Verde Amabile, Rosso Red and Nero Black.
Features
Safety Features:
The Vespa 125 is equipped with safety features, such as a front disc brake and Combined Braking System (CBS), for confidence-inspiring braking performance. This system distributes braking force between the wheels for added stability when the rear brake is applied.
Convenience Features:
Its semi-digital console may not be the most advanced, but it delivers the needful information while also preserving its retro flavour. Its semi-digital console comes with an analogue speedometer and a small digital inset for odometer and tripmeter readings along with fuel gauge. It also has a fairly large 7.4-litre fuel tank. The underseat storage is decent, and it also gets a USB charging port. The scooter comes with up to 5 years of warranty (or 60,000km), 2 years of roadside assistance, and 1 year free service (12,000km, 4 free services).
Riding Posture & Comfort
Rider Comfort:
The Vespa 125 offers an upright riding posture with good visibility. The single-piece seat is slightly contoured, and the floorboard seems to have enough room to place your feet comfortably. That said, note that the floorboard is not flat as it has a spine running down the middle.
Pillion Comfort:
Since the seat is single-piece, the pillion should have enough room to move around. It also gets a chunky chromed-out pillion grab rail. It is functional but also looks retro enough. The flush-fit foldable pillion footpegs look nice while also being practical.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Powering the Vespa 125 is a single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, tuned for refinement instead of punchy acceleration. The three-valve motor produces 9.5 PS and 10.1 Nm, which is pretty decent for an urban scooter. It is also compatible with the latest emission norms.
City & Highway Performance
The Vespa 125 is designed for city commutes, and with 9.5PS and 10.1Nm on tap, it should be adequate for your college/office or grocery/shopping runs. As far as highway performance is concerned, one can only expect so much from a small 125cc motor, so it’s best to restrict yourself to taking highway routes occasionally.
Gearbox:
The Vespa 125 features a smooth CVT (automatic transmission), making city rides hassle-free with twist-and-go convenience.
Handling & Ride Quality
Brakes:
The 200 mm front disc and rear drum brake setup are supported by CBS, offering decent braking power for its segment.
Handling:
With its rigid, load-bearing steel monocoque structure, the scooter should feel planted and stable. Plus, its short footprint, wide tyres and anti-dive characteristics of the front suspension should reassure confidence at speed and while changing directions.
Ride Quality:
The aircraft-inspired single-sided arm front suspension, paired with a four-step adjustable twin rear shock absorber setup should offer a comfortable ride quality. It should be good enough to tackle most of the bad roads in the city.
Rivals To Consider
There are many 125cc scooters in the market offering more features at a lower price point, but with different designs. Considering its pricing and feel-special factor, it can be positioned against scooters like the Aprilia SR 125 and SXR 125 from its own sister brand, and the VLF Mobster 135.
