Vespa Electric Scooter

The Piaggio group is all set to launch the electric version of the Vespa, for which the bookings started in November last year. The electric scooter was showcased at the 2018 Milan EICMA show in November 2018 and sales are expected to start by the first quarter of 2019. The design language will be reminiscent to the ongoing Vespa models, but we can expect a new colour scheme. Powering the Elettrica is a 4kW electric motor which has a 2kW continuous power mode and 4kW peak power. This enhances its performance, making it better than a traditional 50cc scooter, particularly in terms of acceleration and hill starts. Another version fitted with a petrol powered range extender called the Elettrica X will also be available that increases the range to 200km. The battery can be fully charged in about four hours using a conventional wall socket. The Elettrica offers easy handling and assures an enjoyable riding experience on city roads, even at low rpms, which is a great boost while riding through dense traffic. The Elettrica is a feature-rich scooter. It comes with a Vespa Elettrica app that has Bluetooth connectivity, which can display messages and incoming phone calls. The Elettrica will also get a 4.3-inch TFT colour display and not a traditional instrument cluster that displays information like speed, range and charge level. Piaggio also says that the Vespa Elettrica will be AI-ready. The futuristic scooter will be aware of people and other vehicles operating in the near region, extending the operator's ability to sense potential risks and opportunities. It will also provide real-time mapping and traffic data that contributes to improving the design of transportation infrastructures in cities. The future-ready scooter will also be compatible with Gita, the AI assistant.
