Triumph’s New Rocket 3 Launched In India

Of the R and GT variant, the hardcore R version has been launched in India

The Rocket 3 R is priced at Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom India) The new Rocket 3 loses weight, gets a larger motor and gets top-spec suspension and electronics.  Triumph might launch the touring friendly GT version at a later date. 

 

Triumph has launched its largest displacement motorcycle, the Rocket 3, in India. The 2500cc motorcycle has debuted at India Bike Week, which is also where the KTM 390 Adventure is scheduled to be unveiled tomorrow. 

The next generation Rocket 3 gets a bump in engine displacement. It has gone up from 2300cc to 2500cc. The inline triple now delivers 167PS @ 6000rpm and 221Nm @ 4000rpm! That’s almost twice the torque output of the Suzuki Swift! It has also managed to shed more than 40kg (18kg in the engine department itself) off the previous iteration. So expect performance to be explosive.

Thankfully, Triumph has equipped the Rocket 3 with a host of electronic safety aids to keep things in check. They include ride-by-wire, an IMU-based cornering traction control and ABS, four riding modes (Road, Rain, Sport and Rider-configurable), hill hold assist and cruise control. 

Besides safety aids the new motorcycle gets features like twin LED headlamps, LED tail lamps and turn indicators, a colour TFT instrument console, integrated GoPro control, Bluetooth connectivity, tyre pressure monitoring system, keyless ignition, and heated grips. 

At close to 300kg, the Rocket 3 remains a heavy bike. But it is expected to be somewhat dynamically capable thanks to an all-new aluminium frame and an adjustable Showa upside down forks and monoshock setup. It should brake well thanks to the addition of top-spec Stylema monobloc callipers. The motorcycle runs on specially developed Avon Cobra Chrome tyres. 

Triumph sells two variants of the new Rocket 3 abroad: GT and R variant. While the R is a more hardcore variant with flatter handlebars and mid-set foot controls, the GT version is more laidback with raised handlebars and a forward-set foot controls. We get the hardcore Rocket 3 R variant. The new Rocket 3 competes with the new Ducati Diavel 1260 the prices for which start at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, India)
