946 Emporio Armani Edition Expert Review
The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani Edition is Piaggio's flagship scooter and a halo model for the brand in India. The Italian scooter maker had tied up with Emporio Armani to create a limited edition scooter that is nothing short of a fashion statement. The scooter celebrates the year 1946 – the year of the birth of the first scooter from Vespa (hence the 946 name)
Design
The Vespa 946's design is quite exquisite when compared to other scooters on the market, even Vespa's own models. The floating seat is the most eye-catching feature of the bike. The body detailings of the scooter are majestic , which makes it stand apart from other scooters available in market right now. The scooter has more curves but keeps the original Vespa silhouette. The metal parts get a galvanic treatment for durability and a special satin black coat that gives the bike a unique sheen. The bike gets armani logo's in glossy black to keep an understated look while the wheels too get a black finish
Hints of futuristic style can be seen in the LED headlamps and LED tail lamps integrated into the bodywork and a full LCD instrument console.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The aluminum body sits on a traditional steel backbone and has an extensive use of aluminium parts. The suspension system includes a single trailing link with coil spring and telescopic damper at the front and swingarm with adjustable damper at the rear. It runs on 120/70-12” front and 130/70-12” rear tubeless tyres and has 220mm disc brakes at both ends. High-quality leather is used in the seat and handgrip covers. You can also opt of high quality luggage and leather accessories for the bike from Armani. The bike is entirely made by hand to there is a high degree of precision and fit and finish is top-notch.
Feature wise the bike gets ABS and traction control, an overkill, considering the 125cc motor that makes 12PS and 11.8Nm of torque.
Handling & Ride Quality
The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani edition is more of a fashion statement than an everyday mode of transport. So if you you are one of those few who consider Rs 12 lakh as pocket change, then you should definetely consider one. It is one collectible you can park in your living room or ride to the gym on.
