SXL 125 Expert Review
Having the authentic retro look from the ’70s, the SXL 125 sports a monocoque body and aircraft derived suspension setup. The SXL 125 is not only exclusive in its own range of VXL 125 and the Notte 125 scooters but also the most premium scooter in its entire segment in India. This premium scooter is costly and has a heavy price tag of 90,410 (ex-showroom, Delhi). This makes it the costliest scooter in its segment and way ahead of its competitors like the Burgman Street 125, TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Access 125, and Honda Grazia. For an additional six grand, you will also get a Connectivity module. The module connects to any android or iOS smartphone via the Connectivity app which allows you to track your ride statistics as well as help out in sending a distress signal that will send to emergency contacts.
Design and Features
With an ageless retro design style, the SXL 125 is not only beautiful but looks classic as well. This premium scooter receives a lot of chrome treatment on its bodywork. The headlight rims, the rear hand grabs, the mirrors, muffler plate, the piping on the front apron and the footboard are all done in chrome. To enhance the look further even the engine gets the chrome treatment and an engraved Vespa branding as well. The front looks similar to the VXL 125 but is modern thanks to the square headlamp on the SXL 125. The body of this premium scooter is completely made out of steel that adds durability to it. On the rear, you again get chrome elements and a tail lamp with the clear lens indicators that look beautiful. There is plenty of under-seat storage that can easily swallow a half face helmet without any fuss. There is an open compartment on the front that can come in handy to store small things. SXL 125 has a semi-digital instrument console with the digital readouts including an odometer, fuel gauge and a clock. The speedometer is shown on the traditional analogue instrument cluster instead. The scooter is available in six premium colours of White, Orange, Matt Rosso Dragon, Azzure Blue, Matt Yellow and Matt Black.
Engine and Performance
Premium Vespa SXL 125 is powered by the 125cc air-cooled, single cylinder, 3-valve, 4-stroke, with overhead cam and roller rocker arm engine. It is the same one used on the VXL 125 as well. It produces 10.5PS of max power at 7500rpm and a peak torque of 9.9 Nm at 6250rpm. The SXL 125 is one of the most powerful scooters currently available in India in its segment with its best in class power and torque. With map sensing and variable spark timing management system, the engine is not only refined but also gives an amazing fuel efficiency of 45kmpl. Power from the engine to the wheels is delivered via a smooth continuous variable transmission. The maximum speed that this scooter can achieve is 90kmph. At 7 litres, the scooter has an amazing fuel tank capacity.
Braking and Handling
Riding on the SXL 125 is very comfortable as it has a wide and long seat. These plush seats add to comfort by providing a relaxed riding posture. Hence riding long distance on this scooter is very easy and less tiring. Also adding to the ride quality is the solid metal body, that provides stability to the SXL 125 even on high speeds. The suspension is very unique as it gets an aircraft derived single suspension on the front that has an anti-dive system. On the rear, the scooter gets a dual effect hydraulic shock absorber which is very supple. Exclusivity is kept in mind as the SXL 125 comes with a 200mm ventilated front disc brake while the rear gets a very capable 140mm drum unit. Premium looking 5 spoke alloy wheels ride on the 11-inch 110-70 section tubeless tyre on the front and a 10-inch 120-70 section tubeless tyre at the rear. These fat tyres not only look good but also provide a good amount of traction as well.
