Vespa VXL 125 Latest Update

Vespa has launched the 75th Anniversary editions of its scooters in India. The 125cc model is priced at Rs 1,25,996 (ex-showroom). For more details, check out our story.

 

Vespa India have announced a new “More With Morya” offer for its entire scooter portfolio in India. As part of this scheme customers will be given a scratch card and they can win assured cashback up to Rs 20,000. The Vespa offer is only available at Vespa dealerships in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan between August 1 and 31. After opening bookings in early July 2020, the 2020 facelifted version of the Vespa VXL 125 has been launched in India. It is the second most affordable Vespa in the country after the Vespa Notte 125 BS6. The Vespa VXL 125 BS6 facelift retails at Rs 1,10,373 (ex-showroom Pune), which is Rs 1,571 more than the previous-gen BS6-compliant model. 

 

Vespa VXL 125 Price:

The VXL 125 is priced at Rs 1,10,373 (ex-showroom Pune). In comparison, the older-generation BS6-compliant version was priced at Rs 1,08,802, making the new scooter more expensive by Rs 1,571. It is available in six colours. Meanwhile, the latest 75th Anniversary edition of the scooter is priced at Rs 1,25,996 (ex-showroom).

 

 

Vespa VXL 125 Features:

The facelifted 2020 version of the Vespa VXL 125 comes with a full-LED headlamp with DRL. The LED headlamp not only helps it look a bit more modern but should also offer better illumination. The scooter also gets an underseat storage lamp and a USB port for extra practicality. The instrument cluster is a semi-digital unit which shows the fuel level, speed, time, odometer and trip meter readings, apart from the tell-tale lights.

 

Vespa VXL 125 Engine:

The Vespa VXL 125 is powered by a 124.45cc single-cylinder air-cooled, fuel-injected 3-valve SOHC engine. It churns out 9.92PS at 7500rpm and 9.60Nm at 5500rpm. The engine works in conjunction with a CVT gearbox.

 

Vespa VXL 125 Suspension & Brakes:

The Vespa uses the same ‘aircraft-derived’ bottom link front suspension. The rear gets a 4-step preload-adjustable shock absorber in the 2020 iteration. Braking is via a 200mm disc up front and a 140mm drum at the rear with CBS as standard. The scooter gets a rather generous 7.4-litre fuel tank too.

 

Vespa VXL 125 Rivals:

The Vespa VXL 125 primarily competes against the Suzuki Access 125 Special Edition, Honda Activa 125, Hero Maestro Edge and Yamaha Fascino in the 125cc segment. VXL 125 Expert Review

Piaggio India recently launched the newest iteration of its premium commuter offering, the VXL 125. As implied by its name, the scooter is powered by a 125cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. Vespa has built the VXL 125 around a monocoque chassis and offers full steel body construction. Appearance wise, the scooter remains more or less the same save for additional colour options. Further helping the VXL 125 stand out from the crowd are features like alloy wheels, fatter tyres, a contoured seat and a semi-digital instrument console.

Design and Features

The design of the VXL 125 stays faithful to its retro roots with a disc-shaped lamp and overall body proportions that are very reminiscent of the Vespas of yore. The scooter runs on stylish five-spoke alloy wheels that sport a satin finish. The VXL 125 uses a monocoque full-steel body and is 1770 mm in length, 690 mm in width and 1140 mm in height. Its 1290 mm wheelbase ensures greater stability on most road surfaces.

Braking and Handling

The VXL 125 is a quick scooter and bringing it to a halt are a very effective set of brakes at either end. Sitting at the front is a 200mm ventilated disc while stopping the rear wheel is a 140mm drum unit. Aiding the braking characteristics of the scooter are a 110-section tyre at the front and a 120-section tyre at the rear.

The handling of the VXL 125 is reinforced by an anti-dive suspension at the front and a hydraulic shock absorber unit at the rear. This suspension setup provides the VXL 125 with excellent ride and stability under different conditions.

Safety and Features

The Vespa VXL 125 scores well when it comes to safety thanks to the front disc-back drum braking combo it offers. The brakes are powerful and bring the scooter to a smooth and unharried halt. The VXL 125 also runs on tubeless tyres, which minimise air leakage in the event of a puncture and prevent any mishaps. Vespa has further built this scooter with an aircraft-derived front suspension that works to minimise dive under hard braking. Together with the hydraulic rear suspension, this makes the VXL 125 not only a joy to ride but also quite safe
