Triumph Tiger 900 Launched In India, Prices Start At Rs 13.7 Lakh

The 2020 model comes with a bigger engine, better electronics and improved underpinnings

Available in three variants: GT, Rally and Rally Pro. Powered by a Euro 5/BS6-compliant 888cc inline-three engine. Offroad variants feature laced spoke wheels with tubeless tyres. 

Triumph has launched the Tiger 900 in India. It’s available in three variants: the road-biased GT and the off-road centric Rally and Rally Pro priced at Rs 13,70,000, Rs 14,35,000 and Rs 15,50,000 (all prices ex-showroom) respectively.  The updated model comes with a bigger engine, sleeker bodywork, better features and improved underpinnings. Pre-bookings for the ADV began a few weeks ago.

The most important change comes in the form of an all-new BS6-compliant 888cc inline-triple liquid-cooled engine, which makes the same power as before (95.1PS), but arrives 750rpm earlier at 8750rpm compared to the outgoing model. This offers 9 per cent more power in the mid-range, according to Triumph. Peak torque has increased from 79Nm at 8050rpm to 87Nm at 7250rpm. The engine features new internals and gets a new 1-3-2 firing order that gives it a throatier exhaust note. 

The motor’s 6-speed transmission comes with a slipper clutch as standard, however, Triumph also offers a bi-directional quick-shifter as part of the standard equipment on the Pro models.

When it comes to electronic rider aids, the GT variant gets four rider modes: Rain, Road, Sport, Off-Road and traction control. The Rally and Rally Pro trim offer two additional modes: Rider and Off-Road Pro, all of which can be controlled via full-colour TFT display which gets Triumph’s connectivity module.

The new steel trellis frame with a bolt-on aluminium subframe is 5kg lighter than the Tiger 800. While the GT gets Marzocchi suspension on both ends (adjustable for preload and rebound damping), the higher-spec Rally and Rally Pro feature a fully adjustable suspension setup from Showa. The Tiger 900 employs 320mm discs and Brembo Stylema calipers up front while the rear comes with a Brembo single-pot caliper clamped and a 255mm disc.

The Triumph Tiger 900 competes against the 2020 Honda Africa Twin and the upcoming V-Strom 1050.
