Only 250 units of the limited edition motorcycle have been earmarked for India

Royal Enfield has launched the Classic 500 Pegasus Edition with a price tag of Rs 2.40 lakh (on-road, Delhi). The Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer, which has had a long association with the military, launched the bike as a tribute to the famed World War II motorcycle called the RE/WD 125, which was also known as the ‘Flying Flea’ for its diminutive size. The Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available in two colours - Service Brown and Olive Dab Green. However, due to restrictions on the use of military green in India, the bike will only be offered in Service Brown in our market. Royal Enfield will only produce 1,000 units of the special edition motorcycle, out of which 250 units have been earmarked for the Indian market.

The overall design of the bike is pretty much the same as the standard Classic 500. However, the heritage paint job and additional accessories give it the look of a motorcycle from World War II. The bike comes with a set of military-style canvas panniers bearing the Pegasus logo and a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem on the fuel tank. Each bike also features a unique stenciled serial number on the fuel tank and the trademark ‘Made Like a Gun’ decal on the battery box.

Other features include - brown handlebar grips, leather strap accents and blacked out elements on the exhaust muffler, engine cover, wheel rims, handlebar and the headlight bezel. Royal Enfield has also launched a range of riding gear and genuine motorcycle accessories along with the limited edition motorcycle.

Powering the bike is a 499cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled motor capable of producing 28PS at 5250rpm and 41Nm at 4000rpm. Power is transferred to the rear wheel via a 5-speed transmission linked to a chain drive.

The Classic 500 Pegasus Edition competes with the UM Renegade Commando (Rs 1.81 lakh), UM Renegade Commando Classic (Rs 1.99 lakh), UM Renegade Commando Mojave (Rs 1.81 lakh) and the Bajaj Dominar 400 (Rs 1.56 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi). With a strong legacy and limited production, the Pegasus Edition will be a niche product, unlike its competitors. To know more about the Royal Enfield Classic 500 Pegasus and its legacy, click here.
