Hunk Expert Review
Hero Hunk is a muscular 150cc motorcycle that was born back in 2007 under the stable of the country’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Being one of the most appreciated bikes in India, it was restyled by the company in 2011 with the addition of some majestic features. The bike has witnessed some decent sales
numbers ever since its launch and has succeeded pretty well in satisfying its riders.
The bike gets its power from a 149.2cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that generates a peak power of 14.2bhp at 8,500rpm with a maximum torque of 12.8Nm at 6,500rpm. The five-speed constant mesh gearbox with a one-down, four-up configuration is linked to a wet multiplate clutch assembly for the transmission of power. Like its other 150cc models, Hero has installed AMI - Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System in this bike as well to give a quick start-up.
Hero Hunk has a set of grippy tyres with a configuration of 80/100 x 18-47P for the front and 100 / 90 X 18 -56P for the rear that offer a good stability on road. The braking kit comes with a 240mm front disc brake along with a 130mm rear drum brake to give superior braking abilities. An optional 220mm rear disc brake is also provided that gives a better bite in comparison to the conventional drum brakes. A pair of front telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers with rear gas-filled GRS suspension gulps down the bumps and hurdles with ease to offer a comfortable ride.
Built on a tubular diamond type frame, the bike has body dimensions of 2,080mm x 765mm x 1,095mm (LxWxH) with a wheelbase and ground clearance of 1,325mm and 145mm respectively. The front profile of the bike has a sporty headlamp section that look fascinating with the rear view mirrors. The sharply designed fuel tank with stylish fuel tank cowls look stunning and gives a good riding position to the rider. Furthermore, the bike gets a sporty step-up seat and a dark coloured rear grab rail that enhances its appearance. At the rear end, a full LED tail lamp section is present that deliver some more sportiness to the bike. The cockpit comprises of a digital speedometer, an analogue tachometer, tripmeter and fuel gauge.
Design
Hero Hunk can be said as one of the most good-looking and stylish 150cc motorcycles of the country. It seems that the designers at Hero have spent enough quality time to craft the bike, keeping in mind even the minor detailings. The bike receives a stylish and sporty cowl at the front with a refreshed visor and clear lens turn indicators. The body coloured rear view mirrors further add to the charisma of the bike. The sharp fuel tank integrated with sporty fuel tank shrouds give broad shoulders and a majestic appearance to the bike. A neatly designed step-up seat is one of the most fascinating features of this bike that ensures a smooth and comfortable ride.
The manufacturer has installed a full LED tail lamp unit in the bike that appears smashing in both, day and night. Hero Hunk with a body dimensions of 2,080mm x 765mm x 1,095mm (LxWxH) is the most sturdy bike in the company’s 150cc portfolio. The bike has a wheelbase of 1,325mm with a minimum ground clearance of 145mm that gives it a good handling and dynamic stability. It has a 12.4 liter fuel tank that gives a decent range and enables longer commutes with ease. The instrumentation console of the bike is completely reviving that comprises of a digital speedometer, analogue tachometer, fuel gauge and trip meter along with the general telltale lights.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Powering the bike is a 149.2cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that comes mated to a five-speed transmission. It develops a peak power of 14.2bhp at 8,500rpm with a maximum torque of 12.8Nm at 6,500rpm. The engine gets ignited via Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System (AMI) and has a bore x stroke ratio of 57.3mm x 57.8mm. The CCVI (Carburetor Controlled Variable Ignition) gives a crisp throttle response and a superior power delivery to the bike. With this, the bike screams from 0 to 60kmph in 5 seconds and hits a top speed of 108kmph.
Handling & Ride Quality
Hero Hunk has 80/100 x 18-47P front and 100 / 90 X 18 -56P rear tubeless tyres that offer a superior adhesion to the road. The stopping duties of the beast are handled by a 240mm disc brake at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. To further enhance the braking power, the company offers an optional 220mm disc brake with the bike. The bike comes fitted with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers upfront and swingarm with GRS (Gas Reservoir Suspension) at the rear end that works well even on the roughest surfaces giving a good ride quality.
Features
Hero Hunk receives a powerful and luminous 12V-35/35W halogen headlight that gives a good visibility in dark. A 240mm disc at the front and an optional 220mm disc brake at the rear brings the bike to a halt in case of an emergency. The body coloured rear view mirrors look amazing and alerts the rider about his surroundings to avoid the chances of any mishap. The above mentioned handful of features make the bike a desirable and competitive player in the country’s 150cc motorcycle segment.
