Overview
TVS Star City Plus is a premium 110cc commuter motorcycle from TVS. It comes with a segment-first all-LED headlight and is the most expensive 110cc TVS bike. We have ridden it and this is how it performs in the real world:
Design
The Star City Plus gets a traditional commuter design but its sporty graphics make it stand out. The bike comes with a segment-first all-LED headlamp, with better visibility than a halogen one. Additionally, the redesigned headlight cowl provides a sportier look.
Features
The TVS Star City Plus boasts a segment-first full LED headlight. The bike is equipped with a semi-digital instrument console that displays service reminder, a malfunction indicator, and an econometer that indicates the rider with eco and power tell-tale lights based on the riding style. Additionally, the USB charging socket is conveniently placed behind the headlight cowl.
Riding Posture & Comfort
Being a commuter, the Star City Plus provides a comfortable ride. The suspension does an excellent job, it absorbs bumps and potholes effortlessly, apart from the occasional sharp ones that might give you a slight jolt. The bike has a padded seat and well-placed footpegs.
But the low-positioned handlebar turned out to be tiring. It demands the rider to stretch down, resulting in a shoulder strain. This issue could have easily been resolved with a taller handlebar. Moreover, taller riders will feel cramped on the bike because of its riding posture.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
TVS Star City Plus is equipped with a 109cc single-cylinder fuel-injected engine that makes 8.08PS at 7350rpm and 8.7Nm torque at 4500rpm. It gets a 4-speed gearbox and has a claimed top speed of 90kmph. The TVS Star City Plus has a 10-litre fuel tank and provides a real-world tested mileage of 83.09kmpl in the city, and 66.34kmpl on the highway.
When it comes to performance, the not-so-refined engine of the Star City Plus fails to stand out among other commuter bikes. Vibrations are noticeable from as low as 40-45kmph. Even in the top gear at around 65kmph, there's a considerable amount of buzz felt around the footpegs, handlebar, tank, and even the seat. Additionally, the gearbox lacks smoothness, missing the distinct 'click' during shifts, and has a noticeable hesitation when shifting to fourth gear.
Handling & Ride Quality
The TVS Star City Plus handles decently, its lightweight and agile nature helps to easily manoeuvre the bike through tight spaces. The sense of composure remains even when riding with a passenger, and the engine performs admirably, allowing for hassle-free overtakes.
The braking on the Star City Plus is disappointing. Even though it gets a 240mm front disc with CBS as standard, the bite and feedback are dull. The rear brake is also not very responsive. We hope that TVS introduces a better set of brakes for riders to feel confident while panic braking.
In terms of ride quality, the Star City Plus performs okayish as the vibrations can be felt at the footpegs just above 40kmph, which can be really annoying for city commuters, who usually ride between 40-60kmph for better mileage. In contrast, the TVS Radeon remains smooth at these speeds, with noticeable vibrations only after 75kmph.
Should you buy TVS Star City Plus
The TVS Star City Plus is a decent bike for its price. It also offers impressive mileage. However, it fails to provide an impressive overall riding experience due to the engine refinement issues and weird riding posture. The semi-digital instrument cluster also feels a bit outdated too. If you want a 110cc bike with great mileage, the Radeon stands out as a better alternative which provides similar performance and gets additional features at a similar price point.
Pros & Cons
