This launch marks Yamaha's foray into the faired 250cc segment. Deliveries will begin early September

Yamaha has entered the Sports Touring segment with the Fazer 25. The Fazer 25 is an entry-level fully faired 250cc sports bike that will go up against the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200. The concept of adding a fairing to their existing naked performance motorcycle is similar to the 160cc FZS-Fi and the Fazer Fi. The Fazer 25, though, gets a full fairing, breaking away from the tradition of the half-faired Yamaha Fazer sports tourer lineup that includes the Fazer 600 and Fazer 1000.

The Fazer 25 is the faired version of the FZ25. The fairing looks good when viewed from the side, though the front design is polarising. The headlamp is similar to the FZ25 and gets the same LED setup. The fairing has integrated LED DRLs with dummy air scoops on both sides of the headlamp. The tinted floating flyscreen has the number plate holder mounted across it. The mirrors are mounted on the fairing. Beyond the fairing, the tank and rear body panel are similar to the FZ25. The bike gets a two-tone paint finish for a more premium appeal.

The Fazer 25 is mechanically identical to the FZ25. It has the FZ25's diamond-type chassis and employs 41mm forks upfront and monocross rear damper. The tyres are tubeless 100/80-R17 at front and 140/70-R17 at the back. Braking is via a single 282mm front and a 220mm disc at the rear. ABS has been given a miss.

Powering the Fazer 25 is the FZ25's 249cc air- and oil-cooled and fuel-injected motor which makes 20.9PS at 8000rpm and 20Nm of torque at 6000rpm. Performance and handling are expected to be different from the FZ25 as the fairing has added extra weight. The Fazer 25 weighs 154kg (kerb).

The Fazer 250 retails at Rs 1,29,335 (ex-Delhi), a premium of Rs 10,000 over the FZ25 which retails at Rs 1.19 lakh (ex-Delhi). The Fazer 250 is a good alternative for a comfortable entry level 250cc sportsbike and should cover the gap left behind by the now-discontinued Hero Karizma.
