Geliose launched one of the most affordable made-in-India electric scooters, the Geliose Hope, last week. From the price tag to running cost and range, here’s everything you need to know about this electric scooter:

An electric scooter for the price of a premium smartphone

The Geliose Hope electric scooter is priced at Rs 46,999, making it the most affordable electric scooter with connectivity. Since its top speed is limited to 25kmph, you do not need a licence to ride it. This should make it convenient for riders of all ages to use the electric scooter for their commutes. 

That said, bookings for the personal-use variant of the scooter will commence in a few months. At the moment, Geliose is accepting bookings only for the B2B variant that’s suitable for deliveries. It is available only in Delhi NCR for now, but we can expect the brand to expand to more cities by the end of this year.

Range and running costs

The Geliose Hope electric scooter is powered by battery packs ranging between 18Ah, 24Ah and 30Ah. It is connected to a 250W hub motor and offers a claimed range of around 50km-75km depending on the battery configuration. The lithium-ion battery pack takes three hours, 12 minutes to charge up to 80 percent and four hours for a full charge. Geliose claims the electric scooter can go 10km on a 30-minute charge. If you end up running out of charge, you have the assurance of pedal power. 

The best bit is the Geliose Hope electric scooter is claimed to cover 1 km in just 20 paise. That means, covering 75km will cost you just Rs 15. This should be a boon at a time when petrol prices are skyrocketing. Moreover, an electric scooter has inherently fewer moving parts, so you won't be spending a lot on maintenance either. 

Features

Geliose has equipped the Hope electric scooter with an all-LED lighting system. It also gets a fully digital instrument cluster that shows the speed, odometer reading, and battery level. The Bluetooth-compatible battery management system has been developed in-house. You can use it to access features such as geo-fencing, GPS and telematics, fleet management as well as data monitoring and analysis. It even gets a reverse mode so parking in tight spaces should be convenient. 

Underpinnings

The Geliose Hope is built on a single-downtube frame with a trellis-like design at the rear. The frame is linked to a telescopic front fork holding a large spoke wheel whereas the rear uses twin shock absorbers linked to a smaller wheel. The electric scooter comes to a halt using drum brakes at both ends. While the rider’s seat is fixed, the pillion seat is modular. It can be replaced with a flat luggage rack or one with braces on the sides. These options are ideal for delivery executives.
