EXCLUSIVE: Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 Unofficial Bookings Open, To Get 3 New Colours

Expect Royal Enfield to launch the adventure bike this month. Going by the test mule, the BS6-compliant version might come with a smaller front spoke wheel. The tyres might be MRF Meteor dual-purpose rubber instead of the current Ceat Gripp XL.

Unofficial bookings for the Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 have commenced across select dealerships in the country. The booking amount is around Rs 10,000 but might vary from dealership to dealership. As per our sources, Royal Enfield could introduce the BS6 bike in three new colours: Rock Red, Gravel Grey and Lake Blue. Interestingly, these three colours were showcased at the 2019 EICMA. Royal Enfield might launch the BS6-compliant version by the end of this month. It is likely to cost around Rs 9,000 over the current model, which retails at Rs 1,80,951 (ex-showroom Delhi)

Royal Enfield has also released a teaser on its social media handles. The video shows a collage of clips of the motorcycle being ridden across different terrains and ends with the caption, ‘Built For All Roads, Built For No Roads’ -- the tagline of the Himalayan.

Interestingly, the motorcycle was spotted testing recently. Going by the spy shots, it might come with a smaller front spoke wheel, likely a 19-inch unit (as opposed to the 21-inch wheel in the BS4 bike). The rims on the test mule appeared to be of aluminium and the tyres looked slightly meatier too. The wheels were shod with MRF Meteor dual-purpose tyres, presumably a 100-section front and a 130-section rear. In comparison, the BS4 bike rides on 90-section front and 120-section rear Ceat Gripp XL tyres. 

The test motorcycle also featured a hazard lamp function and slightly revised fonts for dials in the instrument cluster. As far as the power and torque are concerned, expect the BS6 version to go down slightly in terms of output figures. At present, the 411cc fuel-injected motor makes 24.5PS at 6500rpm and 32Nm at 4250rpm.  

Once launched, it will essentially be a more affordable alternative to the KTM 390 Adventure, which is likely to come with a price tag of around Rs 2.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
