CBR650F Expert Review
The CBR 650F is a fine blend of sporting DNA and the practicality. The bike excites the adrenaline within you, wanting you to step on the bike and twist the throttle as hard as you can. From the outset, it looks fast, powerful and agile. The scintillating elements that accentuate its killer looks are LED headlamp, the chunky tail section with LED light, side-swept exhaust, the engine in bronze, attractive color schemes (black and red) and the sparkling 17-inch alloy wheels that are shod with radial tyres for enhanced grip and control. The ground clearance of 133mm is quite generous considering it’s a sports bike and the roads it’ll ride on. The fuel tank capacity of 17.3 litres is ideally fine to meet the daily fuel needs or maybe beyond. The engine is tuned to comply with the BS-IV emission norms that mean this beast is environment-friendly too. Overall, the bike is alluring, covers the basics well, sports ABS as standard, features discs, radial tyres and suspends on a highly-potent suspension assembly. It competes against the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 650 and the Benelli TNT 600GT in the Indian market.
Design
Cosmetically, the Honda ride gets a fully-faired look and a versatile character that caters to the touring, sporting and commuting needs- all at the same time. Up front, it features a single headlamp which is an all-LED unit flanked by position lights which are LEDs too. The muscled 17.3-litre fuel tank and sharp fairing design account for its aggressive look. Then, there is a single-piece seat which is slightly raised at the back, a neat tail section with LED, stylish alloy wheels and side swept exhaust with improved intake and flow management. The engine gets a bronze look, which predominately looks eye-catchy. The instrument cluster is fully digital with readings for the dual trip meters, speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge. The combination of clip-on handlebars and foot pegs make it up for the sporty riding stance and position for the rider to enjoy the zip whenever the throttle is twisted. The CBR650F gets two paint options, Millennium Red and Matter Gun Powder Black Metallic of which red is more on a sporty side with upmarket graphics while the matte black shade looks bolder and manlier.
Dimensionally, the bike measures 2107mm long, 753mm wide and 1149mm high. The ground clearance of the bike sits at 133mm and the wheelbase at 1449mm offering it stability and control on the straight lines.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
Honda CBR 650F generates power from the inline, four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 16-valve DOHC, BS-IV compliant 648.72cc engine with fuel injection system that boils out a max power of 86.6PS at 11,000rpm and a peak torque of 60.5Nm at 8,500rpm. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox for transferring power to the wheels. The claimed fuel efficiency of the bike is 21Kmpl. It can travel to 100Kmph from nought in under 4 seconds before accelerating to the top speed of 194Kmph. Honda claims that it has bestowed the bike with exceptional touring capabilities along with making it an ideal road machine that bike enthusiasts would love to hop on. The bike performs best after the rev range hits 7,000rpm.
Handling & Ride Quality
Built on the Diamond frame, the CBR 650F suspends on the 41mm Showa Dual Bending Valve (SDBV) front forks and at the rear, it has 7-step adjustable monoshock absorbers with spring preload. The fitted assembly provides excellent control and stability that can’t be matched by any other sports bike in the segment. For taking care of the braking duties, the brand has blessed it with dual-channel ABS (as standard) and disc brakes (dual-piston 320mm at the front and single-piston 240mm at the rear). The quality of braking is at par as the rider is treated with the best mechanism in the business as far as safety is concerned. The alloys are shod with 120/70ZR-17 and 180/55ZR-17 section tyres at the front and rear respectively that provide adequate grip and aid in keeping the bike stable even on the rough roads.
Features
The bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard, which in combination with disc braking mechanism and radial tyres gives rider the confidence to take on any road and any condition as far as riding turf is concerned.
