Honda CB Unicorn 160 Expert Review

Since 2005, Honda Unicorn has been one of the most elegant models in 150cc segment of bikes. But not anymore, the manufacturer has launched a whole new model of Unicorn with a big heart and sportier skin. Honda CB Unicorn 160 is made available in two variants: standard and CBS, which have a price difference of about Rs. 6000. CBS version is expensive than the standard one due to the incorporation of Combi-brake system.

Honda has introduced a new 162.71cc, air-cooled, single cylinder, 4-stroke, SI engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system that follows one down and rest up gear shift pattern. Tuned to churn out an utmost power of 14.5bhp at 8000rpm with net torque of 14.61Nm at 6000rpm, it can attain a top speed of 106kmph. It is a midsized advance engine blessed with Honda Eco Technology and viscous paper air filter that performs fantastically and delivers a competent amount of mileage.

Dimensions of the Honda CB Unicorn 160 are 2045mm x 757mm x 1060mm (l x w x h) that draws a wheelbase of 1324mm and ground clearance of 150mm. Kerb weight of the machine is 135kg, while the fuel tank capacity it gets is 12 liter. Honda has used the erstwhile Diamond frame to build the new model and has equipped it with telescopic forks at the front and monoshock at the rear. Tyres of the runner are 80/100-17 front and 110/80-17 rear tubeless type. With 6-spoke black alloy wheels, the tyres are equipped with 240mm disc brake at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. The brakes are further made better with the installation of Combi Brake System.

Honda CB Unicorn 160 is available in the following shades: Pearl Igneous Black, Imperial Red Metallic, Geny Gray Metallic and Pearl Amazing White. Fully digital instrument console has been taken from Trigger that displays trip meter, odometer, tachometer, speedometer, digital clock and fuel gauge.

Unlike its younger sibling, Honda CB Unicorn 160 is designed on a naked bike theme and incorporates an edgy headlamp section at the front with clear lens turning blinkers. The fuel tank is neatly designed that looks appealing with the tank shrouds, giving a perfect riding posture to the rider. The bike has a longer and comfortable seat that gives convenience to the rider as well as pillion. The fuel tank has a 3D Honda Wing emblem that gives a touch of premiumness. The dual-tone front fender looks decent as well.

The bike has a stylish tail lamp section that suits well with the bike’s overall design. Honda CB Unicorn 160 has dimensions of 2,045mm x 757mm x 1,060mm (LxWxH) that gives it a handsome stance. The wheelbase and minimum ground clearance figures comes to 1,324mm and 150mm. The bike has been fitted with a fuel tank of 12 liter capacity and its overall weight is 135kgs. Its purely digital instrument cluster is amber backlit and displays speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter and clock.

Honda CB Unicorn 160 is powered by a 162.71cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that pairs with a five-speed transmission system that follows one-down, four-up gear shift pattern. The motor develops a maximum power of 14.5bhp at 8,000rpm with a peak torque of 14.61Nm at 6,000rpm. The bike has a compression ratio of 10:01 with a Bore x Stroke figure of 57.3mm x 63mm. Honda CB Unicorn 160 breathes via viscous paper filter and comes to life with an easy electric starter or kick. The company claims a top speed of 106kmph for the bike and returns a healthy fuel economy of 62kmpl with the assistance of HET (Honda Eco Technology).

The bike is crafted on a diamond frame that provides a strong structure to carry its body. Honda has equipped the bike with telescopic forks at the front and spring loaded hydraulic type monoshock at the rear to accomplish the suspension duties perfectly. The braking system includes 240mm disc brake at the front with a 130mm rear drum brake. The bike has been blessed with Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS) as an optional feature that gives the benefit of application of both the brakes while pressing the rear brake pedal only. Honda CB Unicorn 160 runs gracefully on 80/100-17 front and 110/80-17 rear tubeless tyres that are further mounted on stylish 17-inch black alloy wheels.

The bike comes with a bunch of safety features as well that make it more desirable. It comes with a powerful 12V-35W/35W headlight that illuminates the road impressively in the dark. Moreover, the clear lens turning blinkers are visible even in day time giving another benefit to the rider. The bike has tubeless tyres at both ends that do not deflate suddenly in case of a puncture. Its braking setup is coupled with Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS) that applies both brakes automatically by just pressing the rear brake foot pedal. Last but not the least, the machine gets its initial energy from a 12V 4Ah maintenance free battery that relieves the rider on maintenance costs.
