Key Specs of Unicorn
Honda Unicorn Highlights
The launch of the Honda Unicorn took place a couple of weeks before the lockdown was enforced. Honda has had to suspend production in the meantime. But with factories looking to reopen, expect Honda to start production and deliveries of the Unicorn BS6 soon.
Honda Unicorn Price:
The BS6 Honda Unicorn price is Rs 93,593 (ex-showroom Delhi). The price of the new Unicorn is Rs 12,852 more than the outgoing Unicorn 150. For the price premium that you are now paying for the Unicorn BS6, Honda is kitting the Unicorn once again with the 162.7cc engine but with a fuel-injection system.
Honda Unicorn Features:
There are no fancy features to be found on the Honda Unicorn, with the commuter motorcycle getting a simple DC bulb headlight. Even the console used is an analogue unit. The centre roundel has the speedometer and the odometer and is flanked on the left with a tachometer and a fuel gauge with a few tell tale lights on the right.
Honda Unicorn Engine:
Honda has once again decided to equip the Unicorn with the 162.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. One of the reasons that Honda has done that is perhaps the older Honda Unicorn 150 engine would not meet BS6 emission norms, as it is a really old mill. On the current Unicorn, the 162.7cc engine produces 12.9PS and 14Nm, same power as the old 150cc engine but torque is 1.2Nm more. No changes to the 5-speed transmission though.
Honda Unicorn Suspension & Brakes:
The mechanical setup of the new Honda Unicorn is borrowed from the Unicorn 150. It gets a simple telescopic fork and monoshock handling suspension duties. There is only a single variant of the Unicorn BS6 with a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum brake setup. Single-channel ABS is standard.
Honda Unicorn Rivals:
The Honda Unicorn is one of the most popular 150cc commuter motorcycles in India. It has got a larger heart now but Honda has managed to keep the good bits of the Unicorn brand intact. The primary rivals of the Honda Unicorn BS6 remain the Bajaj Pulsar 150 and the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V. For the same price though, you could also get the Bajaj Avenger 160 Street and the Aprilia SR 125.
