    Overview

    XR 300 L

The Honda XR 300L is Honda’s small-capacity adventure bike that is designed for both on- and off-road use. Unlike the Honda CB200X, the Honda XR300L comes with more capable hardware for rough roads and trails. It will be made in India and will use a Honda CB300F-derived air-oil-cooled engine. We expect the XR 300L to cost around Rs 1.8 lakh (ex-showroom). While the bike has been unveiled in India, we expect its launch to happen sometime in December this year. But before the official launch, the unofficial booking has begun at select BigWing dealerships with a token amount of Rs 5,000.

    Design

Technically, the Honda XR 300L is a dual-sport bike meant to be light and capable for trails. As a result, it looks properly sleek with raised fenders, a braced handlebar, long-travel suspension, spoke wheels with a larger front wheel, dual-purpose tyres, a long, slim seat, and a high-set side-slung exhaust.

    Features

    Safety Features:

In line with its trail-friendly nature, it comes with dual-channel, switchable ABS along with a traction control system for added safety.

    Convenience Features:

The XR 300L makes do with an LCD console without smartphone connectivity. It has all the essentials, including the speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and a gear position indicator.

    Riding Posture & Comfort

    Rider Comfort:

Expect the seat to be fairly roomy and comfortable, with upright riding posture. The seat and footpeg layout should also make it convenient to stand up and ride - ideal for tricky terrain.

    Pillion Comfort:

The pillion comfort should be reasonable for regular commutes or short weekend rides. Whether it’s comfortable for long rides remains to be seen.

    Engine, Mileage & Performance

    City & Highway Performance:

The bike is powered by a Honda CB300F-derived 293cc air-oil-cooled engine. While the naked bike made 24.4PS and 25.6Nm, expect the XR 300 to make more torque given its off-road-friendly nature.

    Gearbox:

It uses a 6-speed transmission, and expect the gearbox to be tuned to help with better low-end grunt, which is essential for trail riding.

    Handling & Ride Quality

    Brakes:

The bike comes with petal disc brakes at both ends, with dual-channel ABS as standard. Note that the ABS is switchable, letting you perform controlled slides off-road.

    Handling & Ride Quality:

The XR 300L gets a long-travel telescopic fork and a gas-charged linked monoshock. The front-end appears to have a 21-inch wheel, whereas the rear is likely to use an 18-inch unit. It will most likely offer excellent ride quality on bad roads, letting you glide over potholes with ease. The wide handlebar should also offer enough leverage to change directions effortlessly. We can also observe the generous ground clearance and expect its kerb weight to be fairly light for its segment too.

The Honda XR 300L rivals the Hero Xpulse 200 4V, Kawasaki KLX230, and the upcoming Bajaj adventure bike. A more powerful liquid-cooled alternative will be the Hero Xpulse 210.
