Rebel 500 Expert Review
Overview
-
The Honda Rebel 500 has been launched at Rs 5.12 lakh in select cities. It is the first sub-500cc cruiser motorcycle from the brand’s Indian portfolio. The bike gets a neo-retro styling, smooth and refined parallel-twin engine and a comfortable riding position.

Design
-
The Honda Rebel 500 is a neo-retro styled cruiser that blends the design of a classic cruiser with modern technology.
-
The bike is quite a head-turner with the old-school chopper-styled fuel tank, a circular LED headlight and the shotgun exhaust.
-
The circular mirrors too add to its appeal with their classic design.
-
The only turn-off is that the bike is offered in a single variant with a single ‘Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic’ colour scheme.

Features
-
The bike gets an all-LED lighting setup with a circular headlight and LED indicators that go well with its design philosophy.
-
The negatively-lit, circular single pod instrument console is easy to read and displays only the essential readings but at this price point, a TFT console was expected with the bike.
-
The 2-in-1 exhaust compliments the bike’s retro character well but some chrome elements integrated in its design would have made it a more appealing package.
-
We think some more safety features like a USB charging port, slipper clutch and traction control system would have been better, making it more value-for-money.

Riding Posture & Comfort
-
The seat is wide enough and will allow the rider to move around and find a comfortable riding position.
-
The rider seat should accommodate the rider well.
-
The pillion seat looks a bit small in size but seems to be padded well.
-
The footpegs are forward-set making the riding posture quite comfortable and laid back.
-
On longer rides, the bike will feel equally comfortable and shouldn’t cause any problems.

Engine, Mileage & Performance
-
The bike is powered by a 471cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that is known to be quite refined and smooth.
-
The engine produces 47.5PS and 43.3Nm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
-
With the power it produces and the refinement it has, the engine will definitely be a capable highway cruiser.
-
Also, the massive torque output should help the bike for an easy ride in city conditions.

Handling & Ride Quality
-
The bike comes equipped with a 296mm front and a 240mm rear disc brakes that should have sufficient stopping power it requires.
-
For the underpinnings, the bike gets a conventional telescopic fork and twin rear shock absorbers from Showa

Initial Impressions
-
With the styling, performance and equipment it gets, the Rebel 500 should be a good motorcycle for the highways.
-
The seating posture is comfortable. With decent space on offer to mount your luggage, the bike should be an ideal touring companion and shouldn’t complain as long as the roads are good.

- Honda rebel : the actual meaning of adrenalineYou know, the Honda Rebel 500 is one of those bikes they just completely nailed.
