Yamaha Electric Scooters Are On Their Way!

Yamaha has filed trademarks for its upcoming EV offerings

Yamaha has filed trademarks for the names E01 and EC-05.  Production is expected to start soon. The e-scooters will be launched in Taiwanese and European markets first.

In a world with ever-rising pollution levels, electric vehicles have become the need of the present, rather than the future. Naturally, several manufacturers have joined the electric bandwagon and now, Yamaha is on its way to introduce two new offerings very soon. According to the latest news, the Japanese manufacturer has filed trademarks for two names, Yamaha E01 and EC-05, for its upcoming electric scooters.

These scooters aren’t exactly all-new, though; Yamaha had unveiled the E01 in 2019 ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show while Yamaha already sells the EC-05 in Taiwan through its Taiwanese partner, Gogoro. There were even rumours that the EC-05 was set to make its India debut in 2019.

The Yamaha E01 is a maxi-style scooter with stylish aesthetics. In its production avatar, it will probably use a conventional telescopic fork up front with a single shock absorber at the rear. Expect it to come with single disc brakes at both ends and at least single-channel ABS. Earlier, Yamaha had claimed the E01 is equivalent to a 125cc petrol-powered scooter so we can expect similar performance numbers. As for the EC-05, its production variant in Taiwan features swappable batteries, disc brakes at both ends, all-LED lights and ABS. We’ve seen swappable batteries on the Revolt RV400 and they proved to be a huge time-saver during our test ride of the e-bike. We expect global variants of both scooters to come with digital instrument clusters, full-LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, and probably riding modes too, making them an appealing package. 

That said, these offerings will reach Taiwanese and European markets first, and it could be a while before they are brought to India.
