Electric Scooters That Look Very Similar To Some ICE Vehicles

… and there’s a mini bike in the list too

Just yesterday, we came to know about Honda slapping Hero Electric with a lawsuit over infringement of its trademarked designs. Vespa had done the same against a Chinese company and won. That got us thinking, which other electric two-wheelers sold in India might have drawn inspiration from their fossil-fuel-powered counterparts?

The Honda Activa might be India’s favourite scooter but the Goans would disagree: the vast majority of scooters you would find there are Honda Dios. Traces of the original Dio can be found on Okinawa’s Ridge electric scooter range. Their headlights look quite similar and so do the nose slats and side panels. The handlebar cowl does differ a bit from the Dio. Fun fact, the Ampere Reo looks identical to the Ridge in every single aspect. Perhaps the two electric companies have sourced from the same Chinese supplier.

Piaggio might want to turn its head in the direction of the Pure EV Epluto as the latter too looks very much like the Vespa. Although the Epluto’s in your face pink shade might obscure all other design aspects, that isn’t enough to detract from the fact that it is eerily similar to the Vespa, mimicking elements like the chrome accents and elegant side panels. The obvious difference here is the lack of a single-sided front trailing link suspension and a single-sided swingarm.

The Okinawa Oki100 does itself no favours by copying the famous Ducati Monster design right down to the T. The round headlamp and bulbous tank section are oh-so--Monster, with Okinawa even giving the Oki100 an exposed tubular steel frame finished in red. The Oki100 might have tried scaling down the styling of the Monster to look appealing, but it doesn’t appear to be that pleasing. Have we missed out on any?
