Incidents like these reiterate the importance of safe riding and wearing proper riding gear

Rash-driving incidents involving buses are, unfortunately, not uncommon in India. This time though, the bus driver is on the positive side of things. A video that’s gone viral on social media shows three girls riding a TVS Jupiter experiencing a freakishly close call with a bus.

The video shows the girls riding absent-mindedly in the middle of the road. Much to their horror, they spot a bus that’s travelling towards them at quite some speed. In an attempt to save her and the two pillion passengers, the rider sways right, but is still unable to move out of the way. The bus driver’s alertness is what resulted in them surviving.

What the girls did is wrong on multiple levels. To begin with, three people on a two-wheeler is illegal and very, very risky. The fact that none of them had any form of safety gear doesn’t help too. And lastly, what the rider girl did wrong as the one in charge, was target fixating. Because her eyes were fixed on the bus, she couldn’t move out of the way quickly and had it not been for the bus driver’s braking skills, things wouldn’t have looked good for the girls.

We, hence, urge you to not only wear riding gear all the time, but also to have a general sense of alertness on our highly unpredictable roads. Savdhaan rahe, satark rahe.
