Confused between the two entry-level commuters? Here’s what the numbers say

The recently launched Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear certainly has a lot going for it. Segment-first features, an attractive price tag and a tried and tested engine. But is that enough to keep you happy on a day-to-day basis, without burning a hole into your wallet? We find out by comparing it with its segment rival, the TVS Radeon.

Acceleration:

|
Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear |
TVS Radeon |
|
|
0-60kmph |
7.99 seconds |
7.88 seconds |
On paper, it is the Platina which packs more power and torque at 8.6PS and 9.81Nm, compared to Radeon’s 8.4PS and 8.7Nm of torque. And this also results in the Platina being the faster of the two in 0-60kmph runs, but only by a small margin, 0.11 seconds to be precise, which won’t matter in the real world.

Roll-on acceleration:

|
Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear |
TVS Radeon |
|
|
30-70kmph |
9.18 seconds |
10.92 seconds |
|
40-80kmph |
14.09 seconds |
14.51 seconds |
However, here’s where the Platina’s 9.81Nm of torque comes in handy. It is a good 1.74 seconds faster than the Radeon in 30-70kmph roll-ons. However, the Radeon does manage to close up the gap to 0.42 seconds in 40-80kmph rolls-ons. Overall, it is the Platina which has an edge when it comes to overtaking manoeuvres or zipping past traffic, but just slightly so.
Braking:

|
Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear |
TVS Radeon |
|
|
80kmph-0 |
40.55m |
47.10m |
|
60kmph-0 |
22.98m |
23.74m |
This is where the front disc brake on the Platina really gives it an edge. Because of drum brakes on both ends, the TVS motorcycle takes 6.55m more than the Platina to come to a halt from 80kmph. During 60kmph-0, however, things are quite close with the Radeon only stopping 0.76m ahead of the Platina.
Fuel Efficiency:

|
Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear |
TVS Radeon |
|
|
Highway |
71.06kmpl |
66.29kmpl |
|
City |
76.82kmpl |
63.97kmpl |
Coming to the heart of the matter - "kitna deti hain?" The simple answer is bohot. Both the motorcycle are quite impressive when it comes to their mileage figures. However, the Platina’s extra fifth gear gives it an advantage in extracting more mileage in the city as well as on the highway. In fact, the Platina 110 H-Gear is the most fuel efficient bike we have tested so far.
Bajaj Platina 110 H Gear User Reviews
- Best combo with more features and good mileageHello, my name is Vinod, and I'm from Lucknow. I wanted a budget bike with excellent mileage that would be affordable for my budget, as well as comfortable for long commutes, since I am a frequent traveler. The Platina 110 H-Gear came across as a great option, offering highway gear and disc brake safety. I compared Hero Splendor, Shine, and Platina, but Bajaj offered more features in the same price range. First of all, handling is very smooth and perfect for a rider like me, a very smooth ride, and the suspension absorbs potholes well. Mileage is consistently 70–75 kmpl, which is impossible to get in other bike. I was not aware of H Gear. On highways, the H-Gear makes cruising at 60–70 kmph easy. After-sales service is affordable, and parts are widely available, but I haven't come to the point where I need to find parts. Yes, for office workers, delivery boys, or anyone who needs a daily reliable commuter. Not for youngsters who want sporty performance or high-speed thrills. If you want to save fuel and have a low budget for a bike, believe me, this is the best thing you can spend money on.Read More1
- Worst mileage.I specially bought Platina 110 disc BS6 model in hope of better mileage. At first the mileage I got was around 65 - 70 KMPL but later on gradually it decreased. Now it is giving me a mileage of 42 - 45 and it's pickup is disaster. While it's maintenance cost is really low and style is good as compared to other Platina models but I really feel that I have been cheated on buying this bike. I recommend others also not to prefer buying Platina 110 but discretion is advised. This is my personal opinion and I do not force anyone not to buy this Bike.Read More5 2

I am really upset, even after taking a new bike, this is the request to all of you, do not take any Bajaj bike or else you will also get upset like this.Read More8 3
