The tussle of 125cc scooters, on paper
The two-wheeler market has made positive strides ever since it opened up post the second wave of Covid-19. The last few months have been particularly eventful, with numerous manufacturers launching new or improved products. Fresh off the lot is the 2021 Yamaha RayZR 125 Hybrid. Head here to read the launch story. It's been improved on numerous fronts to keep it competitive in the cut-throat 125cc scooter market.
And the 125cc Japanese scooter already has a couple of targets in its crosshairs, like the TVS NTorq 125 and the Honda Grazia 125. So we’ve compared them on paper to find out which one comes out on top.

Engine
All three have nearly the same displacement, but the TVS NTorq 125 claims to make the most power (a tad bit higher on the revs). The Honda Grazia 125 which produces its power slightly lower down the rev range comes in second.
The NTorq 125 is the heaviest scooter of the lot at 118kg, which could hamper its power-to-weight ratio. On the other hand, you have the Ray-ZR 125 Hybrid which weighs the least and also benefits from a Smart Motor Generator System, which accordingly irons out torque lag experienced by ICE scooters. The result is a smoother spread of torque which, in theory, should make quick overtakes an absolute breeze. The Ray-ZR’s weight advantage and performance ideally should give it the edge it needs to get a head start over the NTorq.
The Honda Grazia’s lower power-to-weight ratio puts it in third place.
Underpinnings
The front suspension setup for all three models is the same, but the Grazia 125 scores an extra point with its adjustable rear spring. On paper, the NTorq 125 offers more braking prowess as it gets a larger disc up front. Even the tyres on the indigenous scooter are wider, which should offer better straight-line stability and feel more sure-footed in the corners.
However, if you compare the drum brake variants, the Yamaha RayZR 125 takes the cake with larger drums at both ends.
Dimensions
The Honda Grazia 125 should be the most convenient to manoeuvre in bumper-to-bumper traffic, thanks to its shorter wheelbase. It will also feel more at ease on our pothole-ridden roads thanks to its higher ground clearance.
The TVS Ntorq 125’s longer wheelbase should make it more stable at higher speeds. Its fuel tank is half a litre larger than its foes, which means fewer fuel stops.
In terms of storage, the RayZR 125 Hybrid feels more practical with a larger underseat storage. Not to mention, it’s also the lightest scooter here which should make weaving through traffic or simply moving the scooter around in the parking lot a piece of cake.
Price And Verdict
The TVS NTorq 125 is, without a doubt, the most feature-packed scooter here. It’s also the cheapest which makes it one heck of a buy!. However, the updates on the Yamaha RayZR 125 puts it in a better position to take on its rivals. It’s quick, light, practical and feature-packed too -- aspects that every millennial considers. So it really boils down to your needs.
The Honda Grazia 125 feels like a bit of a misfit against the NTorq and RayZR Hybrid. And then there’s the asking price which is too high for the number of features and performance it offers.
