Ola’s Electric Scooter Is Launching Tomorrow

Be ready to gain independence from rising fuel prices as Ola’s Electric Scooter is almost here

Ola Electric is all set to launch its first electric scooter on Independence Day tomorrow. The Ola Electric Scooter, as it is simply named, is expected to be competitively priced, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the company pegs it at around Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom). Ola Electric had already commenced pre-bookings last month at a token amount of Rs 499 on its official website.

The Ola Electric Scooter will be paired with a rather ambitious charging ecosystem. The company has plans of setting up 5,000 charging points (called Ola Hypercharger Network) in 100 cities within the first year, which will further expand to 1 lakh points across 400 cities in the future. 

Ola claims its electric scooter can be charged from 0-50 percent in just 18 minutes, enough for a 75km range. On paper, this should translate to a claimed range of 150km, which is ample for its intended usage. However, it remains to be seen at what speeds this figure is achieved. 

Its features include an all-LED lighting system, and a generous underseat storage, enough to gobble up two half-face helmets. The electric scooter is also likely to feature a large TFT instrument cluster with dedicated switchgear, and smartphone connectivity. 

The Ola Electric will compete against the Simple One, slated to be launched on the same day, and other electric scooters such as the TVS iQube Electric and the Bajaj Chetak.
