Ola S1 Highlights
Ola electric opens the next purchase window for its S1 and S1 Pro e-scooters. However, the S1 Pro will now cost more!
Ola Electric has revealed that the MoveOS 2.0 will be released in April end. Check out our report to learn what it offers. If you want to buy the Ola S1 e-scooter, you’d be glad to know that the details of the next purchase window have been announced. For more details, read our story. Ola Electric also plans to launch a more affordable electric scooter and an electric motorcycle in the future. You can read more about it in our report here.
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro electric scooters were launched in India in August 2021. The former costs Rs 99,999, while the latter now retails at Rs 1,39,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
Ola S1 Prices:
The Ola S1 is priced at Rs 99,999 whereas the more premium Ola S1 Pro retails at Rs 1,29,999. Both prices are ex-showroom Bengaluru, including the new FAME II subsidy. The final price may be even lower depending on the state-level subsidies. The S1 Pro offers a slightly higher top speed, improved range, and a few extra geeky features, not to mention wider colour options. Check out more details about the variants in our analysis here.
Ola S1 Features:
The Ola S1 as well as the Ola S1 Pro are equipped with an all-LED illumination, a massive 36-litre underseat storage, TFT instrument cluster with smartphone, Bluetooth, Wifi and GPS connectivity. Other noteworthy standard features include side-stand-down and anti-theft alert, geo-fencing, reverse mode, Get Home Mode, Take Me Home Lights, and a Limp Home Mode.
The S1 Pro variant also comes with a hill-hold function, voice assistant, and cruise control. The e-scooter also comes with multiple profiles, and a sound system to imitate a petrol-powered scooter, similar to the feature in the Revolt RV 400. However, currently, most of the features aren't available to customers and would be added later as an OTA update.
Ola S1 Powertrain:
The Ola S1 and the S1 Pro share the same permanent magnet motor producing a peak power of 8.5kW and a peak torque of 58Nm (at the shaft). The S1 Pro gets a higher top speed of 115kmph whereas it’s restricted to 90kmph in the S1. It is linked to a 2.98kWh or a 3.97kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a claimed range of 121km and 181km respectively. The e-scooters can be charged using a home charger in 4 hours, 48 minutes (6.5 hours for the S1 Pro). Ola’s Hypercharger network is capable of offering a 75km range for 18 minutes of charging.
Ola S1 Suspension And Brakes:
The Ola S1 is built on a tubular frame with the curved battery pack mounted on the floorboard. It is suspended on a single-sided fork up front, and a monoshock with a single-sided swingarm at the rear. The electric scooter comes to a halt using a 220mm front and a 180mm rear disc with standard CBS. The 165mm ground clearance is generous enough for Indian roads. It rolls on large 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 110-section rubber at both ends. The e-scooter is slightly heavy as the base variant tips the scales at 121kg kerb and the S1 Pro at 125kg kerb.
Ola S1 Rivals:
The Ola S1 competes with the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube Electric and the Ather 450 Plus. On the other hand, the Ola S1 Pro goes up against the Ather 450X and the Simple One. Alternatives to the Ola S1 Pro in its price bracket include the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Yamaha FZ25, Hero XPulse 200 and the Suzuki Gixxer SF. On the other hand, you could opt for the Yamaha FZ-Fi, Bajaj Pulsar NS125, or the Aprilia SR 125 for around the same price as the Ola S1 variant.

S1 Expert Review
Ola Electric has grand ambitions. It wants to make India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility, it wants Indian mobility to be completely electric by 2025 and it aims to have India’s largest charging network infrastructure in the next few years. And to achieve that, its first product, the S1 Pro electric scooter, has to be wowing. It does have great claims: 0-40kmph in 3 seconds, top speed of 115kmph and a range figure of 181km. Plus, fancy features like cruise control, hill hold assist, and a ‘proper’ navigation system are just the tip of the iceberg. How does it actually pan out and is it good at the necessary scooter stuff as well?

Launch Story
Ola launched the S1 and S1 Pro on Independence Day 2021. The asking price for the scooter is quite attractive as well. Check it out here.
Likes And Dislikes
The Ola S1 Pro has a lot of good things going for it. It does the scooter stuff well but there’s still the need for certain items to be polished. Know all about them in our likes and dislikes review.
Deliveries Begin
After several delays, mainly due to scarcity of chipsets, the Ola S1 began reaching its owners in mid-December. Here’s how the company went about it and when the next round of bookings will commence.
Colours Explained
Ola will offer the S1 and S1 Pro in 10 colour options. Here’s a close look at all of them and know which one is our pick of the lot.
Verdict
Did the Ola S1 Pro manage to blow us away? Not quite. It has a good amount of convenience features on board, the storage space on offer is amazing and it does ride and handle well. However, Ola will still need to iron out some niggles in the throttle calibration and battery management systems. Hopefully all of these will be addressed soon, so that when we do get the scooter for a road test, our experience will be far better.
