Ola launched the more affordable S1 electric scooter on 15th August and priced it at Rs 99,999. Head here to read our launch story. Which one is the better electric scooter to invest in, the Ola S1 Pro or Ather 450X? Catch our road test review to know which one came out on top! Apart from that, Ola Electric has rolled out the new MoveOS 2.0 OTA update for the S1 range. We got to test the update, and here is what we think about it.
Ola S1 Prices:
The Ola S1 is priced at Rs 99,999 whereas the more premium Ola S1 Pro costs Rs 1,39,999 (ex-showroom Delhi, including the FAME II subsidy). Depending on the state-level subsidies, the final price could be even lower. The Pro variant offers a higher top speed, an improved range, and packs other geeky features, along with wider colour options to choose from.
Ola S1 Features:
Both the variants come equipped with an all-LED illumination, a massive 36-litre underseat storage, TFT instrument cluster with smartphone, Bluetooth, GPS and Wifi connectivity. Other features include side-stand-down and anti-theft alert, geo-fencing, reverse mode, Get Home Mode, Take Me Home Lights and a Limp Home Mode.
The S1 Pro variant comes equipped with extra goodies such as a hill-hold function, voice assist, and cruise control. This variant also comes with multiple profiles, and a sound system to imitate a petrol-powered scooter, similar to the Revolt RV 400. However, currently, most of the features aren't available to customers and will be added later via OTA updates.
Ola S1 Powertrain:
The Ola S1 and the S1 Pro are powered by a permanent magnet motor producing a peak power of 8.5kW and a peak torque of 58Nm (at the shaft). The S1 Pro gets a higher top speed of 115kmph whereas the S1 gets a restricted top speed of 90kmph. The motor is linked to a 2.98kWh or a 3.97kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a claimed range of 121km and 181km respectively. The e-scooters can be charged using a home charger in 4 hours, 48 minutes (6.5 hours for the S1 Pro). Ola’s Hypercharger network is capable of offering a 75km range in 18 minutes of charging.
Ola S1 Suspension And Brakes:
The Ola S1 is undermined by a tubular frame with the curved battery pack mounted on the floorboard. Its suspension features a single-sided fork and monoshock with a single-sided swingarm. For braking, it gets a 220mm front and a 180mm rear disc with standard CBS. It comes with a generous 165mm of ground clearance. It rolls on large 12-inch alloy wheels wrapped with 110-section rubber at both ends. The e-scooter is slightly heavy as the base variant tips the scales at 121kg kerb and the S1 Pro at 125kg kerb.
Ola S1 Rivals:
The Ola S1 competes with the TVS iQube Electric, Bajaj Chetak, and the Ather 450 Plus. The more premium Ola S1 Pro goes up against the Ather 450X and the Simple One. For a similar price, you could get the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, Yamaha FZ25, Hero XPulse 200 and the Suzuki Gixxer SF. For around the price of the S1, you could opt for the Yamaha FZ-Fi, Bajaj Pulsar NS125, or the Aprilia SR 125.

S1 Expert Review
Ola Electric has grand ambitions. It wants to make India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility, it wants Indian mobility to be completely electric by 2025 and it aims to have India’s largest charging network infrastructure in the next few years. And to achieve that, its first product, the S1 Pro electric scooter, has to be wowing. It does have great claims: 0-40kmph in 3 seconds, top speed of 115kmph and a range figure of 181km. Plus, fancy features like cruise control, hill hold assist, and a ‘proper’ navigation system are just the tip of the iceberg. How does it actually pan out and is it good at the necessary scooter stuff as well?

Ola launched the S1 and S1 Pro on Independence Day 2021. The asking price for the scooter is quite attractive as well. Check it out here.
Likes And Dislikes
The Ola S1 Pro has a lot of good things going for it. It does the scooter stuff well but there’s still the need for certain items to be polished. Know all about them in our likes and dislikes review.
After several delays, mainly due to scarcity of chipsets, the Ola S1 began reaching its owners in mid-December. Here’s how the company went about it and when the next round of bookings will commence.
Ola will offer the S1 and S1 Pro in 10 colour options. Here’s a close look at all of them and know which one is our pick of the lot.
Did the Ola S1 Pro manage to blow us away? Not quite. It has a good amount of convenience features on board, the storage space on offer is amazing and it does ride and handle well. However, Ola will still need to iron out some niggles in the throttle calibration and battery management systems. Hopefully all of these will be addressed soon, so that when we do get the scooter for a road test, our experience will be far better.
