How do the two performance-focused 160s match up?

Bajaj recently updated the Pulsar NS160, its performance-focused offering that goes toe-to-toe with TVS’ formidable Apache RTR 160 4V. Here’s how the both measure up, in detailed images:

At first glance

The Apache is available in four colours – Matte Black, Knight Black, Metallic Blue and Racing Red – which are solid colours and boast only subtle graphics. The Pulsar NS160, meanwhile, can be had in two colours – Pearl Metallic White and Ebony Black – both with sporty, bold constrasts.

Hardware And Underpinnings

The Apache has a double cradle frame, with a conventional fork up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, which is the same as the Pulsar N160. However, the Pulsar is built on a perimeter frame linked to a 33mm upside-down fork.

Moving now to safety. The Pulsar gets a conventional 300mm front rotor and 230mm rear rotor, with the safety net of dual-channel ABS. The Apache, on the other hand, gets 270mm petal disc up front and either drum, or a 200mm petal disc at the rear, and only single-channel ABS.

Tech and features

The Pulsar sports a halogen headlight with LED DRLs, while the headlight on the Apache is an all-LED unit. Both have an LED taillight, and halogen indicators.

Additionally, the Pulsar has a semi-analogue console with a prominent tacho, though in its latest iteration the digital part gets readouts for the gear position and time. Besides, it does not offer smartphone connectivity or riding modes and the like. The Apache, meanwhile, has a full digital console, with smartphone connectivity not just for calls and messages but also for navigation, with higher variants also offering riding modes.

Tyres

While the Pulsar boasts a standard 100-section front and 130-section rear tubeless tyre, the Apache has 90-section front and either a 110-section standard tubeless, or a 130-section radial rear tyre.

Price

The Bajaj Pulsar NS160 retails at Rs 1,34,675 and can be had in only one variant, while the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V retails at Rs 1,23,020 for the base (rear drum) variant and goes up to Rs 1,31,320 for the Special Edition (all prices ex-showroom Delhi)
