Happy Navi Year

The New Year's greeting image on the official website of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) reads “Happy ‘Navi’ Year” instead of the usual Happy ‘New’ Year. The font used for the word ‘Navi’ makes it stand out, and the caption on the picture says: “Here to change the way India plays with two-wheels”.

As the same greeting image appears not only on the website but also Honda’s social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, we believe it could be referring to the company’s new offering in the scooter segment under the Honda Navi brand name.

Speculations are rife about this new model being revealed at upcoming 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to be priced at somewhere around at Rs. 65,000 to 70,000. When launched, it will compete with Suzuki Access 125, Suzuki Swish 125 and Piaggio Vespa range.

Honda Activa 125

Currently, the company only has a single product in 125cc segment - Activa 125 and the Navi could become the second one. Aesthetically, the new Honda Navi will set itself apart from the Activa 125 with a fresh look and will also sport larger alloys and bigger storage space, making it a unique offering in the company's  portfolio.

Honda Navi will be powered by the same 124.9cc, 4-Stroke, SI, air-cooled engine that serves on the Activa 125. The mill is capable of developing a maximum power of 8.60bhp at 6500 rpm and 10.12Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.

On 14 December 2015, President and Chief Executive of HMSI, Keita Muramatsu had said that in 2016, the company will introduce the revived machines of its existing product line-up in India, and will also launch one model every month.
