After seeing a negative slope in the sales figure for a long time, the home grown manufacturer, Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL), has finally registered a growth of 3 percent in two wheeler sales of May 2013. The company has sold 3,13,020 units of motorcycles during the month, against 3,04,780 units sold in May 2013.

Bajaj has the second largest range of motorcycles in India including affordable and premium commuters. The company covers all the important categories of the market with its range of 100cc, 125cc, 150cc, 180cc, 200cc and 220cc motorcycles. It starts with the most affordable one- Platina 100, which comes at a starting price of Rs. 37,019 and ends with its flagship motorcycle Pulsar 200NS, priced at Rs. 85,631.

Bajaj offers its bikes in three different categories in India- Commuter, Sport and Cruiser. The company offers 8 models in the commuter category with Platina 100 and Discover series having 100, 100M, 100T, 125, New 125, 125T and 125ST models. Sports category comes under the brand Pulsar, which gets 135LS, 150, 180, 220 and 200NS models. Cruiser category gets a single model, Avenger 220, which is the most affordable cruiser in India.

Right from the inception, Bajaj Pulsar is being the most popular sport bike in India. However, the company starts loosing its grip in the commuter segment in 2013 and the Japanese Brand Honda overtook the second position from Bajaj. And the main reason was a higher sales of Honda due to its range of automatic scooters, which are still missing in the Bajaj's range.

Bajaj decided to get back to its position with better products in motorcycle segment, instead of bringing some scooters in the market. Then the company started launching products based on new platforms, including third gen Discover series and Pulsar 200NS. The company will continue to launch new products one-by-one and it seems that the effect of their strategy is started reflecting in their sales figure. Now, we hope that this positive curve in their sales chart will maintain its slope and we get to see some more interesting products from the company.
