The most affordable Dominar managed to tally 861 units in its first month

  • The Bajaj Dominar 250 was launched in March 2020.
  • It comes with the same design language as the Dominar 400.
  • The bike is powered by a KTM 250 Duke-derived liquid-cooled BS6-compliant engine.

Bajaj launched the Dominar 250 on March 11, 2020. In its first month, the Pune-based bikemaker managed to dispatch 861 units, which is a pretty commendable number. That’s considering the fact that the production and sales were affected due to the coronavirus pandemic lockdown from March 24, 2020 onwards. Expect both the production and sales to resume from May 3 onwards, provided the pandemic is contained and the lockdown lifted.

Bajaj launched the Dominar 250 in a bid to offer something more affordable under the flagship Dominar family. At Rs 1.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), it was essentially a touring-oriented, feature-packed motorcycle under a budget. In fact, the bike was a whole Rs 31,751 less expensive than the top-of-the-line Dominar 400 BS6. Despite being the more affordable option, Bajaj made sure it looked every bit as premium as its elder sibling by carrying forward the tried and tested design language. It is loaded with features like a fully digital instrument cluster, all-LED lighting system and even a dual-channel ABS.

The motorcycle is powered by a 248.77cc single-cylinder BS6-compliant liquid-cooled engine derived from the KTM 250 Duke BS6. It churns out 27PS and 23.5Nm, which is 3PS and 0.5Nm less than the quarter-litre Austrian hooligan. Bajaj claims the Dominar 250 can reach a top speed of 132kmph and 0-100kmph arrives in 10.5 seconds.

Underpinnings include an inverted front fork, gas-charged rear monoshock. The bike comes to a halt using a front disc with radial caliper and a rear disc, with dual-channel ABS as standard. As far as rivals are concerned, it goes up against the KTM 250 Duke, Royal Enfield Classic 350Husqvarna Svartpilen 250 and the upcoming Yamaha FZ 25 BS6.
