The best of the best that help you tap into different genres

Spoilt by choice in the 300-350cc motorcycle segment. Don’t sweat it, we’ve got your back. Here’s a list of the top five motorcycles in the 300-350cc segment which includes classics, streetfighters, and a supersport.

TVS Apache RR 310 BS6: Rs 2,40,000

It’s a known fact that the BS4 Apache RR 310 was plagued with problems. However, TVS put their heart and soul into the BS6 update and the result was nothing short of surprising. The BS6 Apache RR 310 has little to no vibes, handles even better than before thanks to stickier Michelin Road 5, and packs even more features than before. It gets a full-colour TFT display with four ride modes (Rain, Urban, Sport, Track) aside from the plethora of information it already offers. These modes have two different power maps -- one for the first two modes to restrict output to 28.5PS while the second unleashes the full 34PS. Same goes for torque -- 25Nm and 27Nm. Furthermore, the ECU can automatically optimise the bike’s ABS sensitivity and intrusion according to road conditions. In our opinion, it’s the best value-for-money proposition in the 300-350cc segment and even puts up a tough fight against the KTM 390 Duke.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Dual-channel ABS BS6: Rs 1,82,106

The Classic 350 has been ruling the retro segment for over a decade now and continues to be one of the best selling bikes in Royal Enfield’s portfolio. What's not to like? The bike offers a classic look, a laid back ride, well-cushioned seats, comfortable ergos, and a massive 20-litre fuel tank. And then there's the quintessential RE thump that has fanatics going gaga. The Classic 350 isn't short on safety either; it gets dual-channel ABS as standard. The only shortcoming is the lack of features and premium mechanicals, something RE intends to change with the upcoming Classic 350 based on the J platform.

Jawa Dual-channel ABS BS6: Rs 1,82,106

Classic motorcycles pretty much hold the monopoly in this segment. To begin with, you have classic Jawa which could be a pretty good option. It packs a high-revving BS6-compliant 293cc liquid-cooled motor, which may put out the same power as before -- 27.3PS and 28Nm. Then there’s the retro styling that harks back to the original bike from the ‘70s. Completing the package are a pair of spoked wheels, easy-to-reach handlebars, vintage-style fenders, and an old-fashioned instrument console. It’s fun to ride and feels more like a performance-oriented bike rather than a laid back cruiser -- a trait that also works against Jawa.

Jawa Perak BS6: Rs 1,94,500

The Jawa Perak also makes the list as it competes in a league of its own. It’s currently the only factory custom bobber you could buy under Rs 2 lakh. And boy does it look good! A stealth black paint scheme coupled with the minimalistic design gives the Perak a spartan look. It also features a single tan seat under which lies a monoshock linked to a 'swing cage' swingarm (like the Triumph Bonneville Bobber). The bike is powered by a bored-out version of the standard 300cc engine seen on the Jawa and Jawa Forty Two. The 334cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC motor belts out 30PS of power and 31Nm of torque. Moreover, it sits fairly low and has a seat height of just 750mm, perfect for shorter riders.

BMW G 310 R BS4: Rs 2.99 lakh

If you’re looking for a streetfighter, the BMW G 310 R may just be the best bet in this segment. It’s the cheapest way to hop onto the BMW bandwagon and it offers a decent amount of kit for the price. It looks sharp and sleek and takes its design cues from the litre-class S 1000 R. A 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, which will soon be updated to comply with BS6 emission norms, may offer around 34PS and 28Nm, mated to a 6-speed transmission. Not to mention, premium mechanicals and BMW fit and finish levels. If you’re planning on getting one, we’d suggest you hold on for a bit, since the G 310 R in its BS6 iteration may get a massive price cut. The updated version was also spotted testing overseas.
