Lambretta International had first entered India back in the 1970s. The company saw a bit of success, but it had to cease production in 1997 due/n to lacklustre sales. Now though, Lambretta is planning to re-enter India and will showcase a prototype electric scooter at the 2020 Auto Expo, which will be its global debut. The European company has joined hands with Lohia Auto and Bird Group and is planning to set up a manufacturing plant in Mumbai. It intends to make India its manufacturing hub for producing and exporting scooters to Asian as well as African markets. The brand will also develop a new scooter called Super Lambretta, which will be bigger than the existing models and will be positioned as a premium scooter. Currently, the brand's lineup comprises of the V50, V125, and V200.
