Kinetic Green E Luna - Introduction

First launched in the 1970s, the original Kinetic Luna was an iconic moped of its time. It was looked at as an aspiration by many and became the common man’s best friend to travel from point A to B, even with a lot of luggage. A few also used it to increase their business' reach by using it to transport smaller goods and sell it in other towns, cities and villages. Sadly, the Luna was discontinued in the year 2000. But now, the iconic Luna has returned in an electric Avatar blending nostalgia with modern EV practicality. We got a chance to review it, and here’s how it fares in the real world. With its no-nonsense design and utility-first approach, the E-Luna aims to appeal to both traditional Luna fans and first-time EV buyers.

    Design & Build Quality

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Design

The E-Luna keeps the minimalist, step-through frame just like the original but updates it with a slightly more robust look. The flat, elongated seat, simple tubular frame, and exposed mechanicals are all functional elements over flair. It’s slim enough to weave through tight lanes yet tall enough to carry reasonable cargo loads. The round headlamp, spoked wheels, and slim bodywork give it a very utilitarian, almost bicycle-like appeal.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Colours

The E-Luna comes in bright, cheerful colours like Mulberry Red, Ocean Blue, Sparkling Green, Night Star Black, and Pearl Yellow. These shades give a touch of freshness to an otherwise work-focused design, and they stand out well in urban and rural traffic. Personally, I like the black colour scheme as it keeps things simple and suits the character of the moped.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Build Quality

Build quality is basic but functional. The steel tubular frame feels sturdy enough for daily commuting and cargo use, and the paint finish is acceptable for the price point. However, the plastics are basic and the overall feel is more utility-grade than premium. That said, this is a vehicle built to last, not to impress with showroom polish.

    Features & Practicality

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Convenience Features

The Kinetic E-Luna is equipped with a small but easy-to-read LCD instrument cluster, which displays all the important details including speed, distance travelled, battery, and range DTE (distance to empty) readings.

However, the range shown isn’t very accurate. The battery level indicator uses bars instead of percentage, this fails to provide you with a proper idea of how much charge is left. This also increases range anxiety as the battery bars drop down rather quickly from full to 50 percent and then the last few bars deplete more slowly. It also has an LED headlamp for better night visibility, a removable battery for easy charging, a USB charging port, and basic grab handles. These might all be basic features, but functional enough for its target audience.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Safety Features

Braking is handled by drum brakes on both wheels, with a CBS (Combi-Brake System) present. This is understandable given the ultra-budget price point. Tyres are narrow but adequate for city and rural roads. The electric motor cuts power when the side stand is engaged, adding a small but useful safety element.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Underseat Storage

Unlike scooters, the E-Luna has no enclosed underseat storage. Instead, it is long, has a flat seat and an open frame that allows for tying or strapping luggage, crates, or bags. It’s more of an open platform than a closed compartment.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna Floorboard Space

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Floorboard Space

The utilitarian features of the E-Luna include a luggage hook on the floorboard area and a removable pillion seat. The pillion seat can easily be taken off by unscrewing a few bolts, and then you have a large area at the back to mount luggage like boxes, bags etc. The floorboard is flat and wide enough for carrying small boxes, grocery bags, or even a gas cylinder in rural use cases. This is one of the E-Luna’s biggest strengths: the ability to adapt to multiple cargo needs without any modifications.

    Comfort

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Rider Comfort

The upright seating posture and narrow handlebar make it easy to ride, even for beginners. While I do not have the official figures, it has quite an accessible seat height. The low kerb weight ensures it’s not intimidating, and the step-through design allows a rider to easily mount the moped. I found the seat cushioning is basic but adequate for short to medium trips.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Pillion Comfort

The long seat allows for a pillion or extra cargo, and the stiff suspension tuning feels more ironed out while carrying two adults. Additionally, the footrests are simple and functional, though not the most comfortable for longer rides.

    3.5
    Performance & Range

Kinetic Green E-Luna: Motor & Battery

The E-Luna makes use of a hub-mounted electric BLDC motor and the variant we were riding was making use of the 2.3 kWh battery pack. It has a top speed of 50 km/h, the power delivery is gentle and this makes it easier for new riders to adapt. There’s no aggressive acceleration as it’s tuned for efficiency and control.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: City Performance

In the city, the E-Luna felt nimble and could easily handle stop-and-go traffic. Its lightweight and compact size make it excellent for congested and cramped areas. I found the acceleration modest but enough to keep pace with city traffic in the 30–45 km/h range. It shines when carrying heavy loads or while riding with a pillion. In our test, the E-moped easily carried a well-built pillion of around 80kg without any issue. It doesn’t feel quick with a pillion, but it doesn’t struggle to ride either. It has decent performance as a multi-utility electric vehicle. The only time it feels like it is struggling is while climbing steep inclines.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Highway Performance

The E-Luna isn’t meant for highways. While the top variant can touch 50 km/h, it feels most comfortable at 35–40 km/h. Short stretches are fine, but high-speed stability and wind protection are minimal.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Range

With a claimed range of 80–110 km per charge (depending on battery pack), the E-Luna is very economical. Charging time is about 3–5 hours for the portable battery, making overnight charging easy. Real-world range will vary depending on load and the terrain.

    Handling & Ride Quality

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Handling

At 96kg, the E-Luna is a lightweight vehicle with a slim and sleek body. This helps to make it very agile and easy to manoeuvre on the city streets. Being a good-handling moped, it rides through traffic pretty easily.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Tyres

Narrow 18-inch tyres give it a bicycle-like agility. The grip is acceptable for dry and slightly wet roads, though care is needed in heavy rains or loose gravel.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Brakes

Both ends use drum brakes which are more than adequate for its speed and weight. Brake feel is basic but predictable, though more modern braking options like a disc brake at the front would have felt more confidence-inspiring and improved safety further.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Ride Quality

The suspension is basic, with telescopic forks up front and twin shocks at the rear. It can handle mild potholes and rough patches, but larger bumps are felt through the seat. The suspension on the E-Luna is set on the firmer side and is developed for carrying loads. That’s why when riding solo, you may feel a few bumps and undulations. However, while carrying loads or when riding with a pillion, the suspension works better than when riding solo. But, it is also worth noting that the suspension may bottom out if loaded with more than 150kg of payload.

    Verdict

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Verdict

The Kinetic Green E-Luna isn’t about luxury or speed. It's about affordability, practicality, and nostalgia wrapped in an electric package. It’s ideal for short daily commutes, small business deliveries, and rural mobility, offering a low running cost and simple operation. If someone is looking for a stylish, feature-packed EV, this isn’t it. But if they want something tough, light, and economical, the E-Luna makes perfect sense.

It may not be for everyone, but it can be the perfect vehicle for those with small businesses and someone from the gig economy because it can easily transport a decent amount of goods and luggage. So, if you are someone who needs an electric two-wheeler for a similar use case, then the E-Luna is a good choice.

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Variants

The E-Luna is available in multiple trims with different battery capacities. The base model is slower with a smaller range, while the top variant offers up to 110 km per charge. Buyers can choose based on budget and usage needs. Listed below are all of the variants on offer

    Competition Check

    Kinetic Green E-Luna: Competition

Its closest rivals are not mainstream scooters but other utility EVs and certain low-speed e-mopeds. However, none carry the Luna’s brand recall, which might work strongly in its favour.
