Key Specs of Jawa
Sources indicate that Jawa might start exporting its motorcycles to Europe by the end of this year. Know more details here. Their only manufacturing facility is currently shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Jawa launched the classic Jawa and the Jawa Forty Two back in November 2018. Since then, the brand has managed to rack up innumerable orders and has bumped up production to keep up with the overwhelming response.
The Jawa and Forty Two are now BS6-compliant and Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,928 more expensive than before. Here's the complete price list of the BS6-compliant versions.
As for the bike, the Jawa looks pretty similar to the original bike from the ‘70s. Right from the horn, which is positioned between the front fork and the fuel filler cap, to the dome-shaped headlamp that extends to cover the front forks. You have easy-to reach handlebars, vintage-style fenders and an old-fashioned instrument console. The bike features the same nostalgic maroon paint scheme with chrome elements.
As for the engine specifications, the BS6-compliant model is expected to make the same 27.3PS and 28Nm from the 293cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine as before. This is considering the fact that the BS4-compliant Perak unveiled in 2018 and the BS6-compliant Perak launched in 2019 make the same amount of power and torque.
Apart from the BS6-compliant motor, the underpinnings of the motorcycles are likely to remain unchanged. The Jawa uses a telescopic fork and gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear with 5-step preload adjustability. Anchoring the bike is a disc brake up front and a rear drum or disc unit. Its 18-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels come wrapped in MRF Nylogrip tyres.
The Jawa BS6 competes against the Royal Enfield Classic 350 BS6 and the Benelli Imperiale 400, which will be updated to comply with BS6 norms soon. In terms of pricing, the retro motorcycle competes with the KTM 250 Duke and the Dominar 400.
